Graceland
Kashmir Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wish I lived in Graceland
But I only had one day
A postcard from the main land
Is all I have today

Forty thousand million
And a Rolls Royce engine
Couldn't take me anywhere

Yes, I tried with aspirin
And a nice calm weekend
But my heart has left me here

I wish I had that skin tan
That you are born into
They'd see me as a warm man
Just like they're seeing you

Forty thousand million...

I drown in my drool
Over all the goodies that they get
I drown in a pool
In a pool of my own sweat

Forty thousand million...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kashmir's song Graceland speak about the yearning for a life of luxury and comfort symbolized by Graceland, the famous mansion that belonged to Elvis Presley. The singer expresses his desire to live there, but is limited to only having a postcard as a reminder of the place. He acknowledges the immense wealth required to own something like Graceland, but realizes that money alone cannot bring happiness or fulfill desires.

The song talks about the singer's failed attempts to escape his current life and find solace in aspirin and a weekend away. He confesses that his heart is still longing for something more, and wishes he could have the same skin tan as those born into privilege. He admits to feeling envy and drowning in his own drool over the material possessions others have. These lyrics reveal an inner conflict within the singer, as he grapples with the idea of whether external wealth can bring true happiness.

@Lolo Drum Responding from America, I agree! Best band to exist... how unifying it would be to listen to such an amazing band together!! <3

@Olm9

I took a 6 month roundtrip in New Zealand from october 2003 till April '04. I brought Zitilites that I had just purchased in Denmark before takeoff.
Every night I would listen to it in headphones in my car, that I bought in Dunedin. I did around 3000 Ks and went everywhere pretty much - north and south.
I can't listen to Zitilites without being instantly transported back to those amazing times. A myriad of places, people and experiences pop up in my brain with those 14 beautiful songs.
The power of Kashmir and Enzed.. ❤
