The band consists of the members:
Kasper Eistrup (vocals & guitar)
Mads Tunebjerg (bass)
Asger Techau (drums)
Henrik Lindstrand (keyboards & guitar).
Their earlier albums were musically in the vein of Primus and Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but with their third full length album their style changed dramatically to be influenced by Jeff Buckley and Radiohead, a style often characterised by newcomers as in the same veins as Coldplay, however Kashmir has in Kasper Eistrup, an original text writer and singer, who can hardly be summarized as anything close to Chris Martin.
To this date, the band have released seven full length albums. Their latest, E.A.R. (2013). With the release of NBP, the band yet again changed direction musically to be inspired by artists such as Sonic Youth and other noise rockers.
It should be noted that there also was a Swiss band with the same name which was active between 1979 and 1982. Consisting of keyboarder Patrice Guenat and singer Henry Dubelly, they produced two albums that range between synthesizer pop and neo-progressive genres.
Another danish band in the 70s was also called Kashmir or more correctly "Jørgen Thomsen & Kashmir", but due to Spotify (Kashmir, Jørgen Thomsen tag) they will scrobble as Kashmir, despite being a backing band at least on the 1972 record they recorded:
Jørgen Thomsen was backed by prominent musicains in "Kashmir": Nils Tuxen (Savage Rose, Flemming Hansen (bass), Ken Gudman at drums and Carl Åge Isaksen on piano.
Kashmir - The Band (Urdu: کشمیر ـ دی بینڈ) is an alternative rock band from Karachi, Pakistan. It is the winning band of Pepsi Battle of the Bands Season 2 in 2017. Fine dark suits
Paper hats
Les grands salutes
Your tear stained speech
And your wounded eyes
Your frail attempts
Takes me down
Dries me out
It shoves me around
Blows my flame out
The moon is on
And the morning lurks
But the mood is gone
With the fireworks
I lost my faith
In new year's eve
Serpentines
Cheap cigars
Sparkling wine
Fallen stars
Takes me down
It's time to quit
And start again
Only God knows
What we're celebrating
The lyrics of the song "New Year" by the Danish rock band, Kashmir, convey a sense of disillusionment with the hype and festivities of New Year's Eve. The song starts with a description of the traditional New Year's celebrations, such as fine dark suits, paper hats, and les grands salutes (meaning "the great salutes"). However, the focus is quickly shifted to an individual who delivers a tear-stained speech, with wounded eyes, making frail attempts to be remembered. This individual's struggles are a reflection of the emptiness that can be felt during the holiday season, as they try to reach out for connection, but find themselves alone.
The chorus of the song takes on a more somber tone, as the singer sings about feeling lost and disheartened by the excitement surrounding the festivities. The moon is on and the morning lurks, but the mood is gone with the fireworks. It's as if the excitement of the celebration has quickly been replaced by a sense of emptiness; the singer has lost their faith in the new year's eve festivities. The second verse describes the remnants of the party, such as serpentines, cheap cigars, sparkling wine, and fallen stars, that only serve to reinforce the idea of disillusionment.
Taking the song as a whole, "New Year" is a commentary on the over-hyped and commercialized nature of New Year's Eve. In a time when people are expected to put on a happy face and celebrate with gusto, the song points out the emptiness and loneliness that many people feel during the holiday season. By the end of the song, the singer seems to be calling for an end to the festivities and a fresh start. It's time to quit and start again, only God knows what we're celebrating.
