The band consists of the members:
Kasper Eistrup (vocals & guitar)
Mads Tunebjerg (bass)
Asger Techau (drums)
Henrik Lindstrand (keyboards & guitar).
Their earlier albums were musically in the vein of Primus and Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but with their third full length album their style changed dramatically to be influenced by Jeff Buckley and Radiohead, a style often characterised by newcomers as in the same veins as Coldplay, however Kashmir has in Kasper Eistrup, an original text writer and singer, who can hardly be summarized as anything close to Chris Martin.
To this date, the band have released seven full length albums. Their latest, E.A.R. (2013). With the release of NBP, the band yet again changed direction musically to be inspired by artists such as Sonic Youth and other noise rockers.
It should be noted that there also was a Swiss band with the same name which was active between 1979 and 1982. Consisting of keyboarder Patrice Guenat and singer Henry Dubelly, they produced two albums that range between synthesizer pop and neo-progressive genres.
Another danish band in the 70s was also called Kashmir or more correctly "Jørgen Thomsen & Kashmir", but due to Spotify (Kashmir, Jørgen Thomsen tag) they will scrobble as Kashmir, despite being a backing band at least on the 1972 record they recorded:
Jørgen Thomsen was backed by prominent musicains in "Kashmir": Nils Tuxen (Savage Rose, Flemming Hansen (bass), Ken Gudman at drums and Carl Åge Isaksen on piano.
Kashmir - The Band (Urdu: کشمیر ـ دی بینڈ) is an alternative rock band from Karachi, Pakistan. It is the winning band of Pepsi Battle of the Bands Season 2 in 2017. Ophelia
Kashmir Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And it might be well deserved
With a pin through my third eye
But the long frozen stare
Shooting holes in stagnant air
Sends me off to die
And I know there is no doubt
Venus is your star.
Ophelia... you're falling out
Too tedious to talk about?
Disappeared in the park
Left me probing through the dark
Put me off the path
You're the pebble in my shoe
And the beauty in my view
Beaming through the glass.
Ophelia... you're falling out
Too tedious to talk about?
Insurmountable...always colorful
I don't want to know
How you do what you do
The lyrics of Kashmir's song Ophelia showcase a feeling of confusion and uncertainty. The opening lines, "Yes the black magic worked, And it might be well deserved, With a pin through my third eye," allude to the use of magic to achieve something, possibly success. The singer, however, is unsure if this was deserved or not. The reference to the pin through the third eye, which is an important concept in Eastern spirituality and represents enlightenment, could mean that the singer has achieved success through spiritual growth or has been blinded by materialism.
As the song progresses, the confusion and uncertainty continue to be present. The line "Shooting holes in stagnant air, Sends me off to die" could represent a feeling of helplessness in a stagnant situation that could lead to failure. The singer feels lost and unsure of how to proceed. The chorus speaks of Ophelia, a character from Shakespeare's play Hamlet, who is falling out and is too tedious to talk about. This could represent a metaphor for a relationship that is ending, too complicated to explain or too painful to discuss.
The rest of the song talks about how Ophelia has left a mark on the singer's life, represented by being a pebble in the shoe and a source of beauty. The closing line, "I don't want to know, How you do what you do" could represent a desire to move on from the pain caused by Ophelia and not wanting to dwell on what caused the relationship to end.
