Prior to being a recording artist, he was a record store owner and a club DJ at a nightclub in Salt Lake City as a way to make ends meet for him and his wife. After he and his wife moved to San Francisco he landed a job as a A&R man at OM records, where in addition to reviewing demos for the label he also submitted his own material, which would pay off big time for him. In 2001 he went from behind the desk to behind the turntables and the recording studio as an artist in his own right. In 2003 Kaskade released his first album, "It's You It's Me", which was well received by critics.
It would be his follow up, "In The Moment" in 2004, that would put Kaskade on the map. The first single off the set "Steppin' Out" would become a major hit on the Dance Radio Airplay that year as well as a top 10 hit on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. His biggest breakthrough would come the week of May 14, 2005, when his follow up, "Everything," would go all the way to #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.
Be Still
Kaskade Lyrics

The heart is beating faster
Feeling alive when there is wanting
Always the same
I jump too quickly
Be still my soul
It's love so serious
The less we know
It's love mysterious
Holding tight
When we should let go
Now that this love
Has overcome me
Now that this fire
Is burning bright
All of these words
Seem just beyond my reasoning
Be still my soul
It's love so serious
The more we think
The less we know
It's love mysterious
Holding tight
When we should let go
Be still my soul
Just let it go
In Kaskade's song "Be Still", the lyrics revolve around the idea of falling in love and the emotional turbulence that comes with it. The opening lyrics, "It's nice when the heart, the heart is beating faster, feeling alive when there is wanting" depict the feeling of falling in love and the excitement that it brings. However, the lyrics also convey the lack of control that comes with experiencing such strong emotions, as seen in "Always the same, I jump too quickly". The repeated refrain of "Be still my soul" signifies the need to calm down and find a sense of inner peace amidst the chaos of being in love.
The second verse highlights the contradictions within love as it is both "so serious" and "mysterious". The more we try to understand it, the less we seem to know. The lyrics "holding tight when we should let go" suggest the difficulty in letting go of someone we love. The song talks about how love can consume us and take over our reasoning, as seen in "All of these words, seem just beyond my reasoning". Kaskade's use of the phrase "be still my soul" throughout the song is almost like a mantra urging the listener to take a deep breath and find calm in the chaos of love.

One of my good friends showed me this song 12 years ago. It's tied to memories, so I never forgot it. I just stumbled on it again after all this time...sadly, the friend who showed me it died of leukemia a few years ago. Now it's gonna be my tribute song to him!
