Prior to being a recording artist, he was a record store owner and a club DJ at a nightclub in Salt Lake City as a way to make ends meet for him and his wife. After he and his wife moved to San Francisco he landed a job as a A&R man at OM records, where in addition to reviewing demos for the label he also submitted his own material, which would pay off big time for him. In 2001 he went from behind the desk to behind the turntables and the recording studio as an artist in his own right. In 2003 Kaskade released his first album, "It's You It's Me", which was well received by critics.
It would be his follow up, "In The Moment" in 2004, that would put Kaskade on the map. The first single off the set "Steppin' Out" would become a major hit on the Dance Radio Airplay that year as well as a top 10 hit on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. His biggest breakthrough would come the week of May 14, 2005, when his follow up, "Everything," would go all the way to #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

ends up were I don't want to be
the signs tell me how far I am from you
even now you're all that I see
...I'm in the car speeding from the past
but it's raining on my windshield tonight, tonight
I'm in the car speeding from the past
praying it won't last... tonight
tonight the world is much smaller
with room for only you and me
it feels like I'm falling backwards
into how I used to be
The lyrics of Kaskade’s song, “Raining,” depict a sense of longing and desperation as the singer details an experience of being physically present but emotionally distant from a past love. The first verse opens with the singer feeling trapped in a city where every street ends up in a place where they do not want to be. The signs and distance remind them of the one they long for. The chorus reveals the singer in a car, trying to escape from the past, but the rain pouring down on the windshield tricks them into believing otherwise. The second verse reveals the world as smaller and blooming with memories of the past love, and there is a sense of helplessness as the singer feels like they are falling backward into old patterns and habits.
The song could resonate with anyone who has experienced a relationship built on how things used to be, and the desperate longing to recapture that time. The overall atmosphere is melancholic but also reflective, as the singer tries to distance themselves from the past while simultaneously craving it. The lyrics, "praying it won't last... tonight" are particularly poignant as they indicate the singer's mindset of wanting to move on but still holding onto the past.
