Prior to being a recording artist, he was a record store owner and a club DJ at a nightclub in Salt Lake City as a way to make ends meet for him and his wife. After he and his wife moved to San Francisco he landed a job as a A&R man at OM records, where in addition to reviewing demos for the label he also submitted his own material, which would pay off big time for him. In 2001 he went from behind the desk to behind the turntables and the recording studio as an artist in his own right. In 2003 Kaskade released his first album, "It's You It's Me", which was well received by critics.
It would be his follow up, "In The Moment" in 2004, that would put Kaskade on the map. The first single off the set "Steppin' Out" would become a major hit on the Dance Radio Airplay that year as well as a top 10 hit on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. His biggest breakthrough would come the week of May 14, 2005, when his follow up, "Everything," would go all the way to #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.
Room for Happiness
Kaskade Lyrics

'Cause now I feel the disconnect, like an open wound
Where you once were, there is a space that runs as deep as hell
But every morning when I wake I tell myself
Don't be fooled by your emptiness
There's so much more room for happiness
Don't be fooled by your emptiness
There's so much more room for happiness
Sometimes it's worth to have lost than to have never had at all
'Cause it's a curse to feel loved then to feel it all dissolved
Where you once were, there is a space that runs as deep as hell
But every morning when I wake I tell myself
Don't be fooled by your emptiness
There's so much more room for happiness
Don't be fooled by your emptiness
There's so much more room for happiness
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Don't be fooled by your emptiness,
There's so much more room for happiness
Don't be fooled by your emptiness
There's so much more room for happiness
Yeah, yeah, yeah
In "Room for Happiness," Kaskade sings about the aftermath of a lost relationship. He reflects on the pain and emptiness that comes with the breakup, but also points out that there is space for happiness despite the hurt. The opening lines express the regretful feeling of wishing that the influence of the person is never felt. Kaskade talks about feeling disconnected like an open wound, portraying the extent of the hurt. He mentions that the space left behind by the person is as deep as hell. However, there is a consistent optimistic tone to the song as well, with the phrase "there's so much more room for happiness" being repeated multiple times throughout.
The second verse delves deeper into the complexity of the situation. Kaskade says that sometimes it's better to have loved and lost than to have never experienced love at all, as it's still better to have the memories and emotion than nothing at all. The lines "Where you once were, there is a space that runs as deep as hell / But every morning when I wake I tell myself" suggest that Kaskade is actively trying to convince himself to move on and find happiness again. The repetition of the phrase "don't be fooled by your emptiness" is a reminder to not let the pain and emptiness cloud the possibility of joy and contentment in the future.
Overall, "Room for Happiness" is a poignant and uplifting reflection on the aftermath of a difficult breakup. Kaskade acknowledges the pain and emptiness, but also emphasizes the potential for future happiness.
