Omertà
Katatonia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come by you have come far
All I had I lost in the flood
Come sit with me at the bar
Tell me of progress strengthen my blood
No one here knows my name
I have traded my memories for things
But I remember you clearly
Do you remember that I used to sing

Why have you waited so long

Come by you have come far
Long since I saw you so how have you been
Come sit with me at the bar
How long since they told you that they had found him
No one here knows my name
I gave up my worries for one good thing
But I remember you clearly
Do you remember that I used to sing

Was it because I never told you
I was going away
That you waited so long
Was it because your fucking dreams
Meant nothing to me
That you waited so long

It runs from the top of my fingers
Into my hands
What is it I have been drinking
I do not understand
I thought I'd lost you my brother
I'm so glad you came

My regards to the ones that I love I miss them
Tell them I love them I miss them

Overall Meaning

The verses of this song are very poetic and filled with emotion. The singer is sitting at a bar with someone who he remembers from his past. He tells the person that he had lost everything he had in a flood, but the person he is talking to has come far. He urges the person to talk to him about their progress and to strengthen his blood. The singer feels isolated as no one knows his name, but he remembers the person he is talking to very clearly. He asks the person why they had waited so long to see him again.

As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the singer is talking to his brother who he thought he had lost. He asks his brother if he remembers that he used to sing. The singer is confused as to why his brother waited so long to come and see him. He gave up everything he owned for one good thing, but he remembers his brother clearly. He wonders if the reason his brother waited so long was because he never told him that he was going away, or because his brother's dreams meant nothing to him.

The song is very melancholic and touches on the themes of loss, isolation, and regret, but also love and brotherhood. The singer misses the people he loves and asks his brother to tell them that he loves and misses them.

My favorite band since 2004, I remember I had to ask one of my sister's friends to burn this album on a CD for me, 'cause I didn't have an internet at home back then.. And then I listened to it on my discman every night while falling asleep. Heck, I still do. I now understand why so many people say the music you discover in your teens never quite leaves you.

Lucia Vavrovičová it's what motivates you during those dark hell years. At least that happened to me.

I could never express it in better way...

Lucia Vavrovičová So true. I may have moved on to blackgaze and doom metal but bands like Pantera and Slayer and Sonata Arctica stay with me

@mattygee37

I dunno some of the shit I use to listen makes me cringe now I'm a lot older.

@homevalueglass3809

Yeah, this album, was one of my faves back in the day, wasn't even death metal but a lot of people loved it, that's how good it was

I had a friend who's favorite song was this. I repressed it since she died but I found it from a Fallout 4 mod, of all places, and I cried for about an hour. She was my best friend and I miss her deeply.

Rest easy, Lilly.

Two things:

1) my condolences. Had a friend of mine that was a huge fan of these guys die from an asthma attack, so i understand
And 2) i also found this song (which he would always talk about) from, most likely, the same fallout 4 nod

Katatonia's brand of metal is actually very beautiful
Not many bands can match their grasp of melody

@Cory_Kay
