Bush began writing songs at 11. She was signed to EMI Records after Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour helped produce a demo tape. Her debut album, The Kick Inside, was released in 1978. Bush slowly gained artistic independence in album production and has produced all her studio albums since The Dreaming (1982). She took a hiatus between her seventh and eighth albums, The Red Shoes (1993) and Aerial (2005). Bush drew attention again in 2014 with her concert residency Before the Dawn, her first show since 1979's The Tour of Life.
The TV series "Stranger Things" used Bush's "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" in Season 4. As a result of the resurgence of interest, in 2022 the song reached #1 on the UK charts, 37 years after its initial release, and generated 100s of millions of streams.
Bush's eclectic and experimental musical style, unconventional lyrics, performances, and literary themes have influenced a diverse range of artists. She has been nominated for 13 British Phonographic Industry accolades, winning for Best British Female Artist in 1987, and has been nominated for three Grammy Awards. In 2002, Bush was recognized with an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. Bush was appointed a CBE in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to music. She was nominated three times for induction in the 2018, 2021, and 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Come Closer To Me Babe
Kate Bush Lyrics

And the night will come much closer, too.
Can't you see the light
Drawing pictures nearer in the skies?
What is it that you whisper
When you close your eyes?
Come closer to me, babe.
And who is it that you're always
Calling in your sleep?
Who is Sylvia?
Goodnight, baby. Please
Come on home,
Come on home,
Come on home soon.
Goodnight, baby,
Goodnight, baby,
Goodnight, baby,
Goodnight, baby.
Come closer to me now,
For I know there's something you must tell me.
When slumber slips between your lips
Will the secrets ooze out easily?
What is it that you whisper
When you close your eyes?
Come closer to me, babe.
Is it me it's all about?
And who is it that you're always
Calling in your sleep?
Who is Sylvia?
Goodnight, baby. Please
Come on home,
Come on home,
Come on home soon.
Goodnight, baby,
Goodnight, baby,
Goodnight, baby,
Goodnight, baby.
The lyrics to Kate Bush's song "Come Closer To Me Babe" is about a lover wanting to know more about the person they are with. The song begins with an invitation to come closer, with the promise that the night and the light will come closer as well, drawing pictures in the sky. The lover then asks what the other person whispers when they close their eyes, and wonders if it's all about them or someone else. The question "Who is Sylvia?" is asked, indicating that there may be someone else in the picture.
The chorus repeats the phrase "Goodnight, baby" four times, with a plea for the other person to come home soon. The second verse repeats the earlier questions about whispered secrets and who Sylvia might be. The overall tone of the song is one of longing and insecurity, as the singer is unsure if they are the only one the other person truly loves.
Overall, Kate Bush's "Come Closer To Me Babe" is a beautiful and poignant song about the complexities of relationships and the uncertainty that can plague them.
