Bliss

Like windows on an empty street
Not this time though
First drink, the glow, the heat
A piece of morning sun
Swallowed with a grin
Shooting sparks within
Bliss
Up to the skylight
These walls are warm again
Out of my right mind
This feeling
Old absent friend
A piece of morning sun
Swallowed with a grin
Shooting sparks within
Shower everyone
Bliss
My violet sea receding like an empty threat
Could it be I'm free? I've paid the debt?
Bliss
The song "Bliss" by Kate Miller-Heidke tells the story of a person experiencing a profound sense of joy and contentment, a feeling that is often referred to as "bliss." The opening lines of the song suggest that sometimes things seem closed off and unattainable, but in this particular moment, the singer is experiencing something different. They describe the feeling of a first drink, and how it creates a "glow" and "heat" within them. This fiery sensation builds as the person takes in a piece of morning sun, a metaphor for the beauty and warmth of the world around them.
As the song progresses, the feeling of bliss becomes more intense, and the singer describes how it is like an old friend, one that they haven't seen in a long time. The walls around them are "warm" again, and they feel as though they are out of their "right mind," suggesting that this feeling of bliss is almost otherworldly or surreal. The final lines of the song convey a sense of freedom and release, as the singer wonders if they have finally paid the debt that has been holding them back.
Overall, "Bliss" is a powerful song about the transformative power of joy and the deep sense of contentment that can come from truly living in the moment. It speaks to the human desire for connection and meaning, and the way that these things can be found in unexpected places.
