Life In A Paper Boat
Kate Rusby Lyrics

A boat made of paper, it set sail with me
And O, how I've grown weary
That boat of shame it took me, now I'm far from free
And O won't you stay near me?

Hope it blowed eternal
There upon the promised land
Will it wither now or will I feel my feet upon the sand?

This bundle that I carry is worth more to me than life
And O, how I've grown weary
There's only me to hold her now that I'm no more a wife
And O won't you stay near me?

Hope it blowed eternal
There upon the promised land
Will it wither now or will I feel my feet upon the sand?

An ancient land I've left behind, in ruins now lies she
And O, how I've grown weary
I must spell a new life now with walls to keep her free
And O won't you stay near me?

Hope it blowed eternal
There upon the promised land
Will it wither now or will I feel my feet upon the sand?

My heart is in my hand now we are on the open sea
And O, how I've grown weary
Thank God, she won't remember this, whatever it may be
And O won't you stay near me?

The orange sun was burning on the boat where we all stand
And hope it blowed eternal there upon the promised land
Will it whither now or will I feel my feet upon the sand?

Ed Sheeran is selling out stadiums - this is far superior

I'm a big fan of Kate. I love her voice and this is wonderful. She does deserve far wider recognition and there certainly are much less talented individuals who are more famous. However you are being unfair on Ed Sheeran by using him as a contrast. Maybe he has become too big in this social media dominated world in which we live but he is actually very talented as well, so using him is a bad illustration of the point you are making.

There's a big lump in my throat as I type this. Lovely song, Kate, and lively rendition. I have seen that woman's face my whole life long beginning with photos of "displaced persons" following WWII. They were a bit before my time, but thwre were pica in my achool, showing how generous Canada was in taking them in. Later came the boat people from Vietnam, and so many others since. You have told an eternal story so beautifully. Ten thumbs up.

I had the privilege of seeing you perform this on the first night of your tour in Stafford. A wonderfully moving song that brought the audience to tears. And your comment, "I don't have answers - I only have a song" was equally as heartfelt and honest as the lyrics and melody. Thank you for sharing :)

Beautiful song ,such a terrible thing to happen to fellow humans ,I can just imagine them holding their hands out for human kindness and hope and it's terrible that they are ignored . I love your songs . Thank you .

Sat here with tears streaming down my cheeks. Beautiful song, so relevant right now, in a world where people seem to be forgetting that we are all human, regardless of circumstances, and we all deserve to have a little hope with all the hate and pain. I had the privilege to see you perform in Worthing last year, and I greatly look forward to seeing you again in the near future

@Peter Simpson maybe just stay in your home? Everyone wants to live around white people, except white people, because they are racist!
