Right off the bat
I got a wife at home and a dog and a cat
You know I like flirtin'
I ain't tryin' to hide
It's a lot more fun when your chicken's fried
You love my money too much
You want my money too muchI don't mean to sound so nasty
But since we both know it's a fact
What's wrong with talkin' turkey?
When it's time for a chat
Stop acting like you don't know where it's at
Baby you love my money too much
When you say I'm cool
I know much better than that
I've seen all the pictures of you wearin' my hat
Now don't mess with danger
It gets under your skin
If you don't get it right this time it might take you under again
You love my money too much
You want my money too much
I don't mean to sound so nasty
But since we both know it's a fact
What's wrong with talkin' turkey?
When it's time for a chat
Just stop acting like you don't know where it's at
Baby you love my money too much
What's wrong with talkin' turkey?
When it's time for a chat
Just stop acting like you don't know
Stop acting like you don't know where it's at
Baby you love my money too much
You love my money too much
Baby you love my money too much
The song "My Lonely Love" by Kate St. John explores the theme of a love affair tainted by greed and materialism. The lyrics depict a protagonist who is upfront about his existing commitments, such as having a wife, a dog, and a cat. He admits to enjoying flirting and finds it more thrilling when things are forbidden. However, he accuses his lover of being too fixated on his wealth and assets, suggesting that her affection is driven mainly by his money.
The opening verse establishes the singer's awareness of his lover's intentions and highlights his nonchalant attitude. He acknowledges that she also desires his financial resources and criticizes her for her apparent love for his money. Throughout the song, he maintains a somewhat detached and cynical tone, alluding to his understanding of the shallow nature of their relationship.
The chorus expresses the singer's frustration with his lover's insincerity. He questions why they can't have a straightforward conversation about their situation, using the metaphor of "talking turkey" to symbolize honesty and clarity. He implores her to stop pretending that she doesn't know the truth and confront the reality of their relationship. The repetition of the phrase "Baby you love my money too much" emphasizes his disappointment and skepticism towards her true feelings.
Overall, "My Lonely Love" delves into the complexities of a relationship based on materialistic desires. The lyrics shed light on the singer's detachment and skepticism, highlighting the superficiality and lack of genuine connection in their affair.
