3) Katharsis are a surf rock band with its origins in New Jersey. In early September of 2008, Justin Chung (Guitar, Lead Vocals) began searching for band members to finish out his desired four piece ensemble. Justin reconnected with his old summer camp friend, Jesse Haack (Drums) who then contacted David McNally (Bass, Back-Up Vocals). Matt Modica, Justin's classmate, originally filled the part of guitarist but scheduling problems eventually led to a lineup change. The band later found Matt Dezenzo, a youthful metal virtuoso, who briefly took over for Matt Modica. However, Justin's songwriting took a turn toward the melodic side and the band eventually parted with Matt Dezenzo. David Scala was then recruited to fill the role of guitarist and lends his unique style to Katharsis' music.

4) Katharsis were an alternative/progressive rock band from Greenville, NC that disbanded in early 2007. From the about page on the band's official website: "Katharsis has been a work in progress since 2003. Seeking edgy music with a positive message, guitar players Garett Bissonnette, of One Word, and Patrick Spohr, of Rhetoric, got together to trade riffs and immediately felt they had to passionately pursue the music that unfolded. Settling for anything less than the best was not an option. They auditioned many drummers and bass players before finally finding Cory Granger, a local college student, and Eric Pyburn, Patrick’s bass player from Rhetoric. With the musicians in place, the search for a singer was long and arduous. After two singers came and left, the four members of Katharsis discovered Ean Hirst, of Seraphin, running sound at a local bar. As soon as they heard his voice they knew they had found their front man. With the ensemble complete, they immediately started an intense writing session.
The band had been writing and rehearsing with and without singers over the previous year and a half before finding Ean. Combining the original melodies created by Katharsis and the lyrics written by Ean, Katharsis is brings a new sound to rock music, fusing the best of every world and never settling for anything that doesn’t live up to the title of being “cathartic”. A unique musical style, complete with vocals reminiscent of Alice in Chains, a melodic feel on par with A Perfect Circle, and the overall catchiness of Incubus, sets the stage for Katharsis’ powerful positive message."

Eden Below
Katharsis Lyrics

Restless, endless, soulless, wandering
Gate of darkness' morbid children
Shadows in the black fog
Dawn of evil blood so eagerly awaiting
Raised within an ark of grace and
Beauty hidden
In the mass-graves,
On the dark fields of infinite anguish,
Under a hollow indifferent sky,
The eternal sky
It is time to reach out for the sceptre.
It is time for our master to conquer.
It is time for the olde hooded reaper.
Grim lorde death, he is once more to ryde.
Shadows in the black fog
Lifeless, fleshless, breathless, haunting
Fear and plague and misery's messengers
Shadows in the black fog
Dawne of evilhearts so solemnly
Embracing, leave their crypts to join
The olde earth's funereal procession
When they turne into shape in the
Dark storm that will blow
On the day of our glory
On the day of mayhemic destruction
For Lord Luzifer's triumph in heaven
It is time to take over the
Thrones of the earth
And to rule over all with an iron fist
It is time for the faceless
Archangels to awake
And to rise from the holiest of hells
Shadows in the black fog
Scornfull, wrathfull, dreadfull roaming
Curse of mortals, doomsday's offspring
Shadows in the black fog
Ceremonial servants for our nightly
Sacrificial mass for Satan and
His demonic-court now reigning...
Katharsis's songs are typically inclined towards references of Gothic and satanic nature, and "Eden Below" is no exception. Throughout the song's progression of six minutes, the lyrics portray a bleak and nihilistic picture of a world consumed by darkness and apocalypse. The song's first verse mentions "Shadows in the black fog," suggesting that the world has been engulfed by a thick, black fog, a metaphor for evil, malice, and death that has enveloped everything.
The lyrics continue to describe how the darkness birthed the "Gate of darkness' morbid children" - the offspring of Satan, who are now poised to take over the Earth. The lyrics segue into a description of "mass-graves" and "infinite anguish" where the skeletal remains of the dead litter the fields. The use of words like "restless," "endless," and "soulless" in the first verse denote a sense of endlessness, indicating that this sheer horror has been going on for centuries.
The second verse of the song describes how the Earth belongs now to Satan and how his demonic court reigns supreme over it. The lyrics convey the message that the end of the world is imminent, with monstrous creatures waiting to bring about doom. The lyrics of "Eden Below" paint a disturbing image of humanity's ultimate fate and suggest that the listener is witnessing an apocalyptic end that is inevitable.
