Jenkins was born in Neath, Wales, where she and her sister Laura were raised by their parents Selwyn John (1924–1995) and Susan. She has twin half-sisters from her father's first marriage, neither of whom she has met.
Six out of seven of Jenkins's studio albums reached number one in the classical charts between 2004 and 2008, selling a total of more than 4 million copies. After her first album, Premiere, made her the fastest-selling mezzo-soprano to date she became the first British classical crossover artist to have two number one albums in the same year. She is also the first female artist to win two consecutive Classical BRIT Awards: her second album, Second Nature, reached number 16 in the UK pop charts and was Album of the Year in the 2005 BRIT Awards.
On Sunday 25th November 2007, Katherine Jenkins' new album 'Rejoice' entered the 'Official UK Album Chart' at number 3. Katherine beat off stiff competition from the likes of Girls Aloud, Led Zeppelin, Spice Girls, Take That and Celine Dion.

Ave Maria
Katherine Jenkins’ Ave Maria is a musical rendition of one of the most popular Christian prayers, Hail Mary. Translated from Latin to English, the song starts with “Ave Maria” which means “Hail Mary”. The first two lines, “Gratia plena” and “Maria, gratia plena” translates to “full of grace” and “Mary, full of grace” respectively. In the next line, “Ave, ave dominus” means “Hail, Lord”. “Dominus tecum” can be interpreted to mean “The Lord is with you”. The following lines, “Benedicta tu in mulieribus” and “Et benedictus fructus ventris tuae, Jesus” mean “Blessed are you among women” and “And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus” respectively. The first part of the song concludes with a repetition of the phrase “Ave Maria”.
The second part of the song continues with “Ave Maria, Mater Dei”, which translates to “Hail Mary, Mother of God”. This is then followed by “Ora pro nobis peccatoribus” which means “Pray for us sinners” repeated twice. This phrase is then concluded with “Nunc et in hora mortis nostrae” which translates to “Now and at the hour of our death” again repeated twice. The song then ends with a final repetition of “Ave Maria”. Overall, the song is an invocation to Mary, asking for her prayers and intercession.

this was in 2005 and she has said in a recent intereview on british tv that she was not an opera singer because her voice was not mature enough and so she has to wait till she is 30 and thats when her voice is suppose to reach its right place..honestly i found her rendition to be incredible for a classical singer and now her voice has gotten soooooo much more power than before so shes definitely improving

Katherine is a wonderful singer, she carries a certain sadness in her voice, which is in some ways reflects life and I give her every credit for her performance and expression. Well done Katherine and I wish you even more success in your marvellous singing career.
