MINT
Kathleen Edwards Lyrics

Why I couldn't say no, to the taste of it
God knows I want to, aah
God knows I need to, aah
God doesn't know you like I do
You're the taste of mint, under a midnight flirt
God knows I want to, aah
God knows I need to, aah
God doesn't know you like I do
And I do, sha la la la la la la la
I do, sha la la la la la la la la
And it's like, pure heaven sent
Nothing could, could have replaced
Lord knows I tried, to be true
God knows I want to, aah
God doesn't know you like I do
[Repeat x2]
And I do, sha la la la la la la la
I do, sha la la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la la
The song "Mint" by Kathleen Edwards is a beautifully crafted piece that contains vivid imagery of the taste of mint. Mint is often associated with refreshment, new beginnings, and rejuvenation, and in this song, the taste of mint refers to something that is empowering and captivating. The lyrics explore the idea of being unable to resist the allure of someone, even when you know it's not good for you. The repeated phrase "God knows I want to, aah/God knows I need to, aah" highlights the struggle between desire and the knowledge that giving in to that desire may not be wise.
The chorus "And I do, sha la la la la la la la/I do, sha la la la la la la la la" is a powerful declaration of acceptance, almost as if the singer has resigned herself to the fact that she is captivated by this person who tastes like mint. The bridge "And it's like, pure heaven sent/Nothing could, could have replaced/Lord knows I tried, to be true/God knows I want to, aah/God doesn't know you like I do" adds a layer to the complexity of the lyrics, suggesting that the particular allure of this person is something that cannot be replicated or replaced, and that the singer has tried to be true to herself and resist the temptation to give in to the desire that the person evokes. Overall, "Mint" is a beautifully written and sung song that deals with universal themes of desire, temptation, and the struggle between the heart and the mind.
