In A World Of My Own
Kathryn Beaumont And Chorus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Would reside in fancy little houses
And be dressed in shoes and hats and trousers
In a world of my own
All the flowers
Would have very extra-special powers
They would sit and talk to me for hours
There'd be new birds
Lots of nice and friendly
How-de-do do birds
Everyone would have
A dozen blue birds
Within that world of my own
I could listen to a babbling brook
And hear a song that I could understand
I keep wishing it could be that way
Because my world would be a wonderland
In Kathryn Beaumont's song "In a World of My Own," she beautifully describes the world that she dreams of. The lyrics depict a world where cats and rabbits would dwell in tiny houses and wear clothes like shoes, trousers, and hats just like humans. The singer's imagination is fascinating, and she dreams of having the flowers with special powers that can talk for hours when she is lonely.
The singer continues to express how she desires to live in a world with friendly and courteous birds to make her environment lively. Within this world of her imagination, every person would have bluebirds that would have a unique song that resonates within the hearts of individuals. The singer wishes that her desires could be realized because her world would then transform into a wonderland.

I had EVERY Disney record growing up- and I sang to all of them. Later, seeing the Disney version as an adult- the music was quite a bit different for this album- which seems like it might have been released sometime after the film. I see another version of the soundtrack as it is from the film. The girl playing Alice isn't quite as professional a singer and it's obvious they polished up the songs and orchestra quite a bit. I wonder what the difference was and why they chose to release this record considering the film, at the time of its release in 1951 was not a hit. As film versions go this and the 1930's version (with WC Fields, Carey Grant etc) are my favorites. A few years ago my mother decided to donate all her albums to a university and in the process, ALL my beloved Disney albums are now gone. I'm heartbroken. This was my favorite. Anyone know what year this LP was made in and why the second version?
