Cup of Tea
Kathy Mar Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Love you when you're mean
Stand by every up and down
And every old in-between
And baby I've been there through all your changes
And there's something you should face
Though I may not be your cup of tea
I could never be replaced
You've been a friend when it was easy
And even sometimes when it was not
And there are sometimes when the things you say
Just seem to hit the spot
But then there are some times when you disappear
You've really got the knack
And still I know that when you need a friend
You'll "disappear" right back
I know I can't expect your presence
And I can't demand your time
And I can be sure that I will see you less
When everything's going fine
But you know that I'm the one who'll hold you
Through all your pain and fear
Though I'm not your world not your kind of girl
I'm still the one who's here
And babe when the world has left you broken
And love has left you dry
You know I can help you get back on your feet
And give it another try
And someday when you run out of mountain
If you should ever start to fall
I may be the last one that you think on
But make me the first one that you call
Chorus: And honey I'll feed you when you're hungry
Love you when you're mean
Stand by every up and down
And every old in-between
And baby I'll be there through all your changes
Running' cold or burnin' hot
I may not be your cup of tea
But I'm the one you've got

And honey I feed you when you're hungry
I take care of you when you're in need
Love you when you're mean
I love you even when you're not being kind
Stand by every up and down
I support you through both good times and bad
And every old in-between
And even during the periods of uncertainty
And baby I've been there through all your changes
I have been present for all of your personal growth and transformation
And there's something you should face
And you need to accept something
Though I may not be your cup of tea
Even though I may not be your specific preference
I could never be replaced
I am irreplaceable in my role in your life
You've been a friend when it was easy
You have been supportive when it was effortless
And even sometimes when it was not
And even in times when providing support was difficult
And there are sometimes when the things you say
There are moments when your words hit just right
Just seem to hit the spot
And are precisely what I need to hear
But then there are some times when you disappear
However, there are also times when you go missing
You've really got the knack
You seem to have a talent for it
And still I know that when you need a friend
But I also understand that when you require assistance
You'll "disappear" right back
You will return to seek my support.
I know I can't expect your presence
I understand that I can't anticipate that you will always be available
And I can't demand your time
Nor can I insist that you prioritize me
And I can be sure that I will see you less
I can anticipate that I will have less frequent interactions with you
When everything's going fine
During times of stability and ease
But you know that I'm the one who'll hold you
However, know that I will be the one to provide comfort
Through all your pain and fear
During periods of difficulty and discomfort
Though I'm not your world not your kind of girl
Even though I may not be your ideal partner
I'm still the one who's here
I am still present, no matter what.
And babe when the world has left you broken
And my dear, when the world has left you shattered
And love has left you dry
When love has depleted you
You know I can help you get back on your feet
Remember that I am able to aid you in your recovery
And give it another try
And encourage you to try again
And someday when you run out of mountain
And, one day when you've exhausted all possibilities
If you should ever start to fall
If you begin to stumble
I may be the last one that you think on
I may not be your first thought
But make me the first one that you call
But please, make me the first person you contact.
And baby I'll be there through all your changes
I will be present for all the transformations in your life
Running' cold or burnin' hot
During times of joy and pain
I may not be your cup of tea
I may not be your preferred choice
But I'm the one you've got
But I'm the one who will support you no matter what.
