While in primary school, Katie kept to herself and retreated into music, where in interviews, she stated she became obsessed with the band "Queen" ( and mourned her idols death incesantly in 1991 at the age of 7!)On her thirteenth birthday her mother bought her an acoustic guitar and taught her three chords, which started her writing her own compositions and only one year on, she was playing live in various small venues around Ireland. Katie states, " I look back on what i was playing now and cringe, but really at fourteen and armed with three chords i really have to appreciate what i was trying to do."
She supported, a now renowned, Damien Rice twice and his interest in her started a local interest in the teenage writer.
Three years later she joined "Gallaxie 500esque" dreampop outfit, "Dae-Kim" as a contributing songwriter, guitarist and vocalist, along with former "Tenspeedracer" drummer Terry Cullen and within a year the band were generating record company interest and touring Europe extensively.
In 2008, Katie left the band amicably, to pursue her solo career and record her debut album of songs that she had been writing between gigs for the past three years.
In November, her debut album "Twelve" was released to critical acclaim in Ireland and a tour followed. This year she has worked with Mike Scott of the Waterboys and most recently, on David Kitts' new album.
Katie Kim is doing a series of live performances with Donal Dineen in Nov/Dec as part of his Fresh Air Festival. see http://freshairfestival.wordpress.com/live for more.

Katie Kim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
entry lines,
round your face
They're new
and show,
Where someone took your place
Easy,
watch your feet,
Cause your thoughts,
and your words
won't help you down below
Don't scoff,
I can't pretend,
easily
Cause I'm blue, but I'm bold
And you never were my friend
Bring in the cavalry,
load up the guns
Cause my car can take it
And the mission carries slowly
Bring back the harbor,
Build me a place
for home,
for friends,
for fading.
Pause a little while,
take me in
to your house
all ink
and water.
The opening lines of Katie Kim's song Pause, "I saw entry lines, round your face, they're new and show, where someone took your place" is about the feeling of not having control when a relationship ends. The "entry lines" are the manifestation of the pain felt by the singer when she realizes that someone has taken her place in the life of someone she used to be close to. The lyrics "Easy, watch your feet, as they go, cause your thoughts, and your words won't help you down below" is a warning to the person who left that they need to be careful because their actions will eventually have consequences.
The lyrics "don't scoff, I can't pretend, easily cause I'm blue, but I'm bold and you never were my friend" is about the hurt felt by the singer when the person who left disregards her pain. She's not pretending that everything is okay because she's "blue," but she's also brave enough to face the situation head-on. The lyrics "bring in the cavalry, load up the guns, cause my car can take it, and the mission carries slowly" shows that the singer is ready to fight for what she wants. She's bringing in the "cavalry" to defend herself and is determined to take things slow.
The lyrics "bring back the harbor, build me a place for home, for friends, for fading, pause a little while, take me in, to your house all ink, and water" is about finding a new home and a stable place to build a new future. She's asking for a respite from the pain and chaos of life, and for someone to let her in and care for her, even if she's covered in "ink and water." The song is a plea for someone to recognize her pain and offer her a place of healing and security.

I saw
The singer observed something
entry lines,
Referring to wrinkles or marks on someone's face
round your face
The marks are around the person's face
They're new
The marks seem to have appeared recently
and show,
They are noticeable and visible
Where someone took your place
The marks suggest someone has replaced the person
Easy,
It's easy to do something
watch your feet,
Be careful about what you do or say
as they go
While navigating through a situation
Cause your thoughts,
What you think
and your words
What you say
won't help you down below
Won't be beneficial in the long run
Don't scoff,
Don't mock me
I can't pretend,
I can't fake it
easily
It's not easy
Cause I'm blue, but I'm bold
I may feel down, but I'm still confident
And you never were my friend
You were never really my friend
Bring in the cavalry,
An expression for calling in reinforcements
load up the guns
Preparations for a fight
Cause my car can take it
The singer is going to face the challenge head-on
And the mission carries slowly
The challenge may take a while to overcome
Bring back the harbor,
The singer wants a return to a safe place
Build me a place
She wants somewhere to belong
for home,
A place where she feels at home
for friends,
A place where she can be with people who care about her
for fading.
A place where she can find peace in the midst of change
Pause a little while,
Take a break for a moment
take me in
Accept me as I am
to your house
Bring me into your life
all ink
All the experiences and emotions
and water.
That make up our lives
