Cry About It Later
Katy Perry Lyrics

I'll cry about it later
I'll cry about it later
Tonight I'm havin' fun
Tonight I'm havin' fun
I'll cry about it later
I'll cry about it later
Tonight I'm gettin' some
Tonight I'm gettin' somethin' brand new

I know tomorrow I'll be love hungover
But I'm ready for a shameless summer
Champagne on ice only makes you stronger

Pourin' it, pourin' it, pourin' it non-stop, ah
Drinkin' it, drinkin' it, drinkin' it all up, ah
Body to body, I almost forgot
You're not him, you're not her

I'll cry about it later
I'll cry about it later
Tonight I'm havin' fun
Tonight I'm havin' fun
I'll cry about it later
I'll cry about it later
Tonight I'm gettin' some
Tonight I'm gettin' somethin' brand new

I think I'm ready to be someone's new muse
I think I'm ready for a brand new tattoo
I'm gonna fake it 'til it makes me feel good

Pourin' it, pourin' it, pourin' it non-stop, ah (one more)
Drinkin' it, drinkin' it, drinkin' it all up, ah
Body to body, I almost forgot
You're not him, you're not her

I'll cry about it later
I'll cry about it later
Tonight I'm havin' fun
Tonight I'm havin' fun
I'll cry about it later
I'll cry about it later
Tonight I'm gettin' some
Tonight I'm gettin' some
I'll cry about it later
I'll cry about it later
Tonight I'm havin' fun
Tonight I'm havin' fun
I'll cry about it later
I'll cry about it later
Tonight I'm gettin' some
Tonight I'm gettin' somethin' brand new

Ooh
I know tomorrow I'll be love hungover
Ooh

And it's half past three
And I got angel wings
But a devil's grin
And only one can win
No, no, no, no

(I'll cry about it later)
(I'll cry about it later)
(Tonight I'm havin' fun)
(Tonight I'm havin' fun)
(I'll cry about it later)
(I'll cry about it later)
(Tonight I'm gettin' some)
(Tonight I'm gettin' some)

I'll cry about it later
I'll cry about it later
Tonight I'm havin' fun
Tonight I'm havin' fun
I'll cry about it later
I'll cry about it later

Tonight I'm gettin' some
Tonight I'm gettin' somethin' brand new

Overall Meaning

"Cry About It Later" is a pop/dance track from Katy Perry's sixth studio album, Smile. The song's main theme is about putting off the pain and hurt that may arise from problematic relationships, instead choosing to focus on having a good time now and dealing with the aftermath later. Perry sings, "I'll cry about it later, tonight I'm having fun," before delving into the details about a new lover who makes her forget about past heartaches. She confesses to drinking champagnes non-stop, letting loose and enjoying the moment, even though she knows she'll be heartbroken the next day. She speaks of a devil's grin and angel wings, suggesting a sense of mischief, and perhaps hinting that she might not always be the one who comes out on top.

In many ways, "Cry About It Later" is a hedonistic anthem urging listeners to indulge in what they want now, and deal with the consequences later. Katy Perry has explained that she wrote the song after emerging from a particularly tough period in her life, having split from her fiancé Orlando Bloom and dealing with the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The song speaks to her willingness to move on from her heartbreak and embrace single life once again.

In conclusion, "Cry About It Later" is a catchy dance track that encourages listeners to let go of their problems and enjoy life's pleasures without worrying about the consequences. Perry's bold and carefree attitude is contagious, and the song's upbeat tempo only adds to the message of letting loose.

SMILE

Smile (the album) is Katy telling a story to her daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, about heartbreak, self-love, recovery, and finding new love.

The record contains twelve beautifully-crafted tracks and each song must be grouped into three to better understand the story it intends to convey. The album is not just another playlist but rather a perfectly- curated presentation of songs.

The first three tracks: Never Really Over, Cry About It Later and Teary Eyes depicted her heartbreak and pain caused by loss or failure of a love. Love here may refer to her music during the Witness era, which was met with lots of criticisms and was not accepted well by her fans and the general public alike.

The next three songs: Daisies, Resilient and Not The End Of The World painted her strength and realization of self-worth. These songs are her reminders that her value is not based on what others think of her or the things she has or has not accomplished.

Smile, Champagne Problems, and Tucked talked about her healing and recovery as the song Smile says, “she finally got back that smile”. In Champagne Problems, she realized that her heartbreak and pain are actually not that big of a deal. Aren’t we all as soon as we have moved on over a certain pain?

The last tracks: Harleys In Hawaii, Only Love, and What Makes A Woman described her newly-found love and happiness. An extremely deep realization has dawned upon her resulting in the decision to focus her attention on the things that matter most in life: her husband, her baby, and her music regardless of how her art will be accepted by the public.

At the end of the song What Makes A Woman, the album’s outro, she says, “ There it is, Katheryn”, which means that she has concluded telling the story to her little Katheryn and has just laid out a detailed narration about her life.

Katy Perry has just put out her best album to date.
