After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager. Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson under her birth name in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. She moved to Los Angeles the following year to venture into secular music after Red Hill ceased operations and she subsequently began working with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin. After adopting the stage name 'Katy Perry' and being dropped by The Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.
Perry rose to fame in 2008 with her second album, One of the Boys, a pop rock record containing the controversial U.S number one song "I Kissed a Girl" and "Hot n Cold". Three subsequent albums have topped the U.S. Billboard 200. The disco-influenced Teenage Dream (2010) spawned five chart-topping U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles–"California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T.", and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" — a record tying her with Michael Jackson's "Bad". Its follow-up record Prism (2013) was inspired by her divorce, and incorporates pop and dance along with themes of self-reflection, everyday life, and relationships. With the music videos for its chart-topping songs "Roar" and "Dark Horse", Perry became the first artist to have multiple videos reach one billion views on Vevo. Her 2017 electropop album, 'Witness' featured a political subtext and a theme of liberation. Her sixth studio album 'Smile' followed in 2020.
Perry has nine U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number one singles and has received various awards, including four Guinness World Records, five Billboard Music Awards, five American Music Awards, a Brit Award, and a Juno Award. She has been included in the annual Forbes lists of highest-earning women in music from 2011 to 2019. Her estimated net worth as of 2016 is $125 million. Perry is one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 18 million albums and 125 million singles worldwide. In film, she released an autobiographical documentary titled "Katy Perry: Part of Me" in 2012, and voiced Smurfette in the 2011 film The Smurfs and its sequel in 2013. Her Super Bowl halftime show performance is the most watched in history. Perry also began serving as a judge on American Idol in 2018.

A life of locks, I swallowed up the keys
I was petrified, only knew how to hide
They can't hurt me if they don't know me
A full facade made a mirage outta me
Then you came and started digging for a treasure underneath
And you found a better version of me I had never seen
Into me, you'll see
Into me, you'll see
You broke me wide open, open sesame
Into me, you'll see
Into me, you'll see
You got me wide open, now I'm ready
Is this intimacy?
I was a ship floating aimlessly
So camouflage was my own worst enemy
But then you came in like a sailor with a heart that anchored me
And every day I wake up grateful I'm no longer lost at sea
Into me, you'll see
Into me, you'll see
You broke me wide open, open sesame
Into me, you'll see
Into me, you'll see
You got me wide open, now I'm ready
Is this intimacy?
Oh, 'cause no one's ever seen me like this
Seen right through their bullshit
I pray that it can keep unfolding
Pray that I just can stay open, just stay open
Just stay open, just stay open
Oh, 'cause you broke me wide open, open sesame
Into me, you'll see
Into me, you'll see
You got me wide open, now I'm ready
This is intimacy
The lyrics to Katy Perry's song "Into Me You See" explore the theme of vulnerability and the fear that comes with it. Perry describes how she had built a protective wall around herself and hidden her true self from the world out of fear of being hurt. However, that all changed once someone came into her life and started uncovering the real person inside. The lyrics describe the process of being seen and understood by another person, and the resulting feeling of intimacy that comes with it.
The metaphor of a wall is a powerful one in this song. Perry sings about building a wall that was "so high, no one could reach" and "a life of locks" which she swallowed the keys to. These lines express the idea that she had created a seemingly impenetrable barrier between herself and the world, shutting out others and protecting herself from harm. However, Perry's assertion that "they can't hurt me if they don't know me" reveals the fear that motivated her to build the wall in the first place.
The chorus of the song, which repeats the phrase "into me, you'll see," reinforces the idea of vulnerability and the power that comes with someone truly seeing and understanding us. The lyrics suggest that this process of opening up to others can be scary and challenging, but ultimately leads to a sense of intimacy and connection that is truly valuable.

I will never understand why people hated this album so much back in 2017. People treated her so wrong, and still are treating her this way with smile. It's funny to remember that some people judge the soundscape of this album so much, when right now in 2020 we are in a disco electropop era. If Witness released today, maybe people would like it more, or they will simply hate cause it's a Katy Perey album? I'll never know. This album is amazing. It deserved more

It's ok.. Katy wants to make her fans happy and she does! Maybe people just refuse to like her work, but we know it's amazing!

Katy perry is the pop version of nicki minaj and vice versa. Both of them faced hate when they released witness and queen. I hope people understand and listen to how beautiful and unique both of their albums given that they released quality music ahead of their time
