After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager. Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson under her birth name in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. She moved to Los Angeles the following year to venture into secular music after Red Hill ceased operations and she subsequently began working with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin. After adopting the stage name 'Katy Perry' and being dropped by The Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.
Perry rose to fame in 2008 with her second album, One of the Boys, a pop rock record containing the controversial U.S number one song "I Kissed a Girl" and "Hot n Cold". Three subsequent albums have topped the U.S. Billboard 200. The disco-influenced Teenage Dream (2010) spawned five chart-topping U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singlesā"California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T.", and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" ā a record tying her with Michael Jackson's "Bad". Its follow-up record Prism (2013) was inspired by her divorce, and incorporates pop and dance along with themes of self-reflection, everyday life, and relationships. With the music videos for its chart-topping songs "Roar" and "Dark Horse", Perry became the first artist to have multiple videos reach one billion views on Vevo. Her 2017 electropop album, 'Witness' featured a political subtext and a theme of liberation. Her sixth studio album 'Smile' followed in 2020.
Perry has nine U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number one singles and has received various awards, including four Guinness World Records, five Billboard Music Awards, five American Music Awards, a Brit Award, and a Juno Award. She has been included in the annual Forbes lists of highest-earning women in music from 2011 to 2019. Her estimated net worth as of 2016 is $125 million. Perry is one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 18 million albums and 125 million singles worldwide. In film, she released an autobiographical documentary titled "Katy Perry: Part of Me" in 2012, and voiced Smurfette in the 2011 film The Smurfs and its sequel in 2013. Her Super Bowl halftime show performance is the most watched in history. Perry also began serving as a judge on American Idol in 2018.

You earned the spot, got your receipts, yeah
Funny, gotta add addendums to your dreams
Still, you never sleep, no, you never sleep, ah
Oh, you learn to dance, to bob and weave, yeah
To let that water roll off easy, yeah
You grew yourself above the weeds, taller than the trees, oh, so
Don't try and reinvent your wheel
'Cause you're too original
Baby, just stay classic
Ain't broke, ain't broke, don't fix it
Your highs, your lows, just ride it
It's a pendulum, it all comes back around
It's a pendulum, it's a pendulum
Life's a pendulum, it all comes back around
It's a pendulum, it all comes back, it all comes back
So just take those punches on the chin, yeah
Don't fight the changes in the wind, no no
'Cause you'll find your way home, oh
If you find a way to let go
Just let go
Don't try and reinvent your wheel (your wheel)
'Cause you're too original (original)
Baby, just stay classic
Ain't broke, ain't broke, don't fix it
Your highs, your lows, just ride it
It's a pendulum, it all comes back around (pendulum)
It's a pendulum, it's a pendulum (all comes back around)
Life's a pendulum, it all comes back around (pendulum)
It's a pendulum, it all comes back, it all comes back around
And there is no need to worry
The pages keep on turning
And it goes on and on, goes all the way around
And there is no need to hurry
There's a fire burnin'
'Cause it goes on and on, goes all the way around
All the way around
Hey, around
(All) all the way around (c'mon)
Ain't broke, ain't broke, don't fix it
Your highs, your lows, just ride it
It's a pendulum, it all comes back around (pendulum)
It's a pendulum, it's a pendulum
Life's a pendulum, it all comes back around, hey
It's a pendulum, it all comes back, it all comes back
It's a pendulum, it all comes back around (pendulum)
It's a pendulum, it's a pendulum (all comes back around)
Life's a pendulum, it all comes back around (pendulum)
It's a pendulum, it all comes back, it all comes back
In "Pendulum," Katy Perry sings about the ups and downs of life, likening it to a pendulum that swings back and forth. The song encourages listeners to persevere through the challenges and changes that come their way, rather than trying to reinvent themselves or fix what isn't broken.
The first verse acknowledges that life experience and hard work have given the singer a certain level of wisdom (represented by their patina), and that they have earned their place in the world. Even though they must make modifications to their dreams, they never stop pushing forward. The second verse advises not to fight against the natural ebbs and flows of life and to just let go of what is no longer serving you. The chorus ties it all together, affirming that no matter how far the pendulum swings in one direction, it will always come back the other way.
Overall, "Pendulum" is a hopeful and reassuring song, encouraging listeners to stay true to themselves and weather the storms that come their way. It speaks to the cyclical nature of life and encourages acceptance and resilience, rather than resistance or fear.

Agreed !
@jackie_0221
Honestly I think her team is sleeping on this song. It has a powerful chorus, strong vocals, strong instrumentation as well as production. - With a great music video and the right promotion, Pendulum could have been the "Roar" of this era, as in it would have been loved by the general public because of its catchy tune and empowering, anthemic lyrics.

Jacqueline this song is like like a prayer by Madonna it would be a huge hit
