Anthem
Kawehi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

No more questions, no more pain
I could give you all the answers
To things like hunger and poverty -
only exist because we never give

Take a breath and stop!
Running in circles can't be easy
You've got that white flag so high
before you even try

I believe in you
I believe in you
I believe in you
You are the answer
You are the truth
So what are you gonna do?

You've got that condition - I wish I had!
Knowing what love is
I'll never understand the how or why
anything else could even matter

It's just us now
Breathe in and out
No need to shout
I'm listening

I believe in you
I believe in you
I believe in you
You are the answer
You are the truth
So what are you gonna do?

With every high and low
there's something to take
Freedom's worth giving for
Worth living for
I believe in you
I believe in you

No more questions, no more pain
I could give you all the answers

To things like religion, faith and God
Only exist because you need them to

Overall Meaning

Kawehi's song ANTHEM is about empowerment and believing in oneself. The lyrics acknowledge the existence of pain, poverty, hunger, and the human condition, but instead of dwelling on these negative aspects, the song encourages the listener to take a deep breath, stop running in circles, and believe in oneself. Kawehi sings that she believes in the listener and that they are the answer and truth to their own problems. The song challenges the listener to take action and make a difference in their own life and the world around them. The final verse addresses religion, faith, and God, suggesting that perhaps these concepts only exist because people need them to, but that the real power to overcome obstacles lies within oneself.

Overall, ANTHEM is a positive and uplifting song that encourages self-belief and action. The lyrics are introspective and thought-provoking, encouraging the listener to question their own beliefs and motivations. The music itself is a blend of electronic beats and live instruments, with Kawehi's powerful vocals carrying the message of the song.

First time in a long time I've watched a music video edited minimally in a way that makes actual sense with the song, whilst keeping the artist's authenticity in her performance. No distraction with low nonsense and the boxes focus our attention on her making of it & what she does: loop her multi faces of talent into a 1-girl band. The genius behind this execution made me enjoy the music all the more (otherwise what's the point in having visual content to accompany a song at all). Plus the little visual aspects you add like dance moves that come naturally to you in response to the music & your expressions that convey genuine musical enjoyment are precious.

First time in a while I have seen an artist of this day & age use technology not to autotune herself (since there's no need), but to multiply her potential for her music.

First time I have decided a single favourite artist. No hesitant 'one of'. Reason is you take popular songs I almost lost all musical vision in & bring out the musical potential in them. Something I always enjoyed doing with my instruments. You spin music like magic & it is an amazing thing when you strip everything else away.

First time I may have heard such multi-faceted music (including a voice) so completely soothing to the ear in every way that music should be: rhythmically, harmonically naturally & unegotistically.

Simply for the genuine & pure enjoyment of music for all, both the maker & the listener. I hope this aspect of you will always stay with you whatever you do as it has already inspired me to do the same.

I agree; however, I think her message is to find strength in yourself, that WE--each one of us--controls our individual and collective destiny. The words make it clear. (Naturally, this is just my interpretation, not yours or hers, so I won't be offended if you disagree.):

"To things like hunger and poverty - only exist because we never give" - many pray for the end of world hunger and poverty, but when did BILLIONS of prayers put even a grain of rice into the belly of a starving child?

"Running in circles can't be easy. You've got that white flag so high before you even try" - many believe "I am just one and too small to make a difference", "it's in The Lord's hands", that "The Lord will find a way", that "The Lord works in mysterious ways"; therefore, many feel powerless and accept their fellow man as not being their responsibility.

"I believe in you. You are the answer. You are the truth. So what are you gonna do?" - She believes in the power of people, that we are the solution to our (world's) problems, WE are the truth--we are what's real, and we should have faith in ourselves rather than fabricated truths. Unveiling the truth, that it is all in our control and up to us, she presents the challenge... "So what are you gonna do?"

There's more, but this post is already too long. :D You can read and interpret more here: http://kawehi.bandcamp.com/track/anthem.

I can't explain how I got here, but I want to say this song came to me at exactly the right time. Exactly. I mean it, and it shaped a certain moment of time where it was playing in the background in such a profound way, it deserves its own movie. You are a pure soul, thank you. I truly believe in you too. And everyone else like you.

@mauriciohalo2081

Years ago and found me just like that to!! Hopefully through a lot of work, I got TV shows and movies connected together, and there’s an episode called “ I believe and hope” I have to pay to make sure that song is in that episode!!

@TahitiNut

Kawehi is a miracle! In a world and industry so overloaded with crap and plastic people, here is a real, genuine, authentic, adorable, beautiful (inside and out), woman, doing it ALL herself!! I'd say I'm her biggest fan... but love is really not a competition.
