Kay Kyser & His Orchestra Lyrics

Yippee-yay
There'll be no wedding bells for today

'Cause I got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle (jingle, jangle)
As I go ridin' merrily along (jingle, jangle)
And they sing, "Oh, ain't you glad you're single" (jingle, jangle)
And that song ain't so very far from wrong (jingle, jangle)
Oh, Lillie Belle (oh, Lillie Belle)
Oh, Lillie Belle (oh, Lillie Belle)
Though I may have done some foolin'
This is why I never fell

'Cause I got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle (jingle, jangle)
As I go ridin' merrily along (jingle, jangle)
And they sing, "Oh, ain't you glad you're single" (jingle, jangle)
And that song ain't so very far from wrong (jingle, jangle)

Oh, I got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle
(I got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle)
As I go ridin' merrily along
(As I go ridin' merrily along)
And they sing, "Oh, ain't you glad you're single"
(And they sing, "Oh, ain't you glad you're single")
And that song ain't so very far from wrong
(And that song ain't so very far from wrong)

Oh, Lillie Belle
Oh, Lillie Belle
Though I may have done some foolin'
This is why I never fell (why I never fell)

'Cause I got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle
(I got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle)
As I go ridin' merrily along
(As I go ridin' merrily along)
And they sing, "Oh, ain't you glad you're single"
(And they sing, "Oh, ain't you glad you're single")

And that song ain't so very far from wrong
(And that song ain't so very far from wrong)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kay Kyser's song "Jingle Jangle Jingle" express the joys of being a free and single man riding happily through life. The first line, "Yippee-yay, there'll be no wedding bells for today," clearly sets the tone for the song, indicating that the singer is glad to be unattached to any romantic obligations. The next few lines, "Cause I got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle, as I go ridin' merrily along, and they sing 'Oh, ain't you glad you're single'," further reinforce this message, as the singer revels in the joyful sound of his spurs and the recognition that being single is a lucky coincidence.

The line, "And that song ain't so very far from wrong," at the end of each verse, solidifies the singer's conviction that being single is the best way to live life. The repeated phrase "Oh, Lillie Belle," in each verse, may refer to a former love interest, but the line "Though I may have done some foolin', this is why I never fell," suggests that the singer has learned from past romantic experiences and is content with his current state. Overall, the song celebrates the sense of freedom and independence that many people treasure, especially those who favor the cowboy lifestyle.

Thank you! This is the first video of this song that ACTUALLY said who the female singer was!

@the78prof72

You're most welcome! When available, I include vocalist names in both the video titles and written descriptions on this channel....even when they are not noted on the record label.

@stayingoffthegrid3844

Yes thank you for the music. Julie Conway was my grandma and an awesome person.I love hearing her voice.thank you ✌️💯

@the78prof72

My pleasure! And thank you for checking in. Your grandmother had such a pleasant vocal style on those Kyser sides. Per the Rust discographies her real name was Julie Sherwin (correct?) and she joined the band around March 1942. Unfortunately, the long and infamous Musicians Union strike which began at the end of July put an almost complete stop to the recording of new 78 releases by Columbia Records until late 1944 or we might have enjoyed more examples of her contributions. There may be some old radio airchecks around of Kyser's "Kollege Of Musical Knowledge" radio programs on which she appeared.

@stayingoffthegrid3844

@the78prof WOW I didn't know that.thank you for the knowledge. Actually my grandma's name was Julie sherry and my grandpa was Bob sherry on the radio so I've been told. They also had an ice rink in Marina California I wish I would have been able to know her better but she passed away from cancer when I was young but the memories I do have are awesome . Infact she made a sock doll for my father named googie that I still have to this day🥰 I really enjoy seeing her in the video with Georgia Carol. She had an amazing voice. Thank you again. Jason sherry 😊✌️

@the78prof72
