1. Kayak is a legendary Dutch progressive rock band, mostly known during the 1970’s. Formed from the ashes of the group High Tide Formation (who released only one single before disbanding), the early sound was typified by the contrasting songwriting styles of keyboardist Ton Scherpenzeel and drummer Pim Koopman, as well as the distinctive vocals of Max Werner.
The band saw an increasing streamlining of their songwriting, as well as greater commercial fortunes, over the years, hitting their peak of popularity with the smash success of their single “Ruthless queen”, a sizable European hit from their 1979 album, Phantom Of The Night.
Kayak disbanded in 1981, after their semi-conceptual Merlin and subsequent live album Eyewitness. Ton Scherpenzeel subsequently joined progressive rock legends Camel and contributed to their 1984 album Stationary Traveller, as well as to 1999's Rajaz.
Kayak reunited in 2000, releasing one of their best albums yet: Close to the Fire, with a guest appearance of Andrew Latimer of Camel. Being active ever since, Kayak released two further conceptual opuses: Merlin: Bard of the Unseen (an elaboration of their 1981 album) and Nostradamus: The Fate of Man.
In 2007 the band released the live CD KAYAKoustic, to return in 2008 with a new studio album called Coming Up For Air. The coinciding tour celebrated their 35th Anniversary.
Current line up: Ton Scherpenzeel (keyboards) Pim Koopman (drums) Edward Reekers (voc) Cindy Oudshoorn (voc) Joost Vergoossen (guitr) Rob Vunderink (voc, guitr) and Jan van Olffen (bass).
On 23 November 2009, drummer Pim Koopman unexpectedly died of sudden heart faillure...all concerts were cancelled for the remainder of 2009 and for 2010

Eye to eye
Soul to soul
Heart to heart
We talk like strangers talk
But I know you just don't hear a word I say
When we touch when we make love
Is it my imagination
The fear of losing you
Oh love your passion is fading
There's nothing we can do
We're eye to eye
Heart to heart
But worlds apart
We still share the same brass bed
But our nights are getting colder every time
Gone the love that we once had
And we know we've lost it somewhere down the line
I wonder am I mistaken
Though the writing's on the wall
This crazy game that we're playing
While we're heading for a fall
When we're eye to eye
Heart to heart
But worlds apart
Can't find a cure nor remedy
But it's clear that any fool can see
That the ground beneath our feet is shaking
I thought I was the only one
Now I guess I'm just the lonely one
Only you can stop this heart from breaking
Remember it's all yours for the taking
Face to face
Eye to eye
Soul to soul
Heart to heart
The song Worlds Apart by Kayak portrays the struggles of a failing relationship where the two partners find themselves to be distant despite being together. The verse 'Face to face, Eye to eye, Soul to soul, Heart to heart' shows a connection that once existed between the lovers, but it soon turns into nothing but a mirage. The singer sees that their partner has lost the connection, and they can't communicate with each other anymore. Despite being together, they talk like strangers, and the love that they once shared is long gone. Whenever they touch or make love, the singer can feel the void between them, which grows bigger every day.
The chorus 'We're eye to eye, Heart to heart, But worlds apart' emphasizes how the couple struggles to find the common ground they once shared. The singer reaffirms their love for their partner but is uncertain if it's reciprocated. They fear losing their partner, yet they know that their love and passion have faded, and it can't be salvaged. The singer realizes that the relationship is headed for a fall, but neither of them can't find a cure or a remedy. The bridge 'Can't find a cure nor remedy, But it's clear that any fool can see' portrays their struggle as they move towards an inevitable end.
