After college, Kaye moved to New York to pursue music. She played bass and guitar in several Brooklyn bands (including shredding as Slash in an all-girl Guns N’ Roses cover band called ‘Guns N’ Hoses’). In 2014, a mutual friend connected her with San Fermin’s Ellis Ludwig-Leone. Impressed with her voice, he asked her to be San Fermin’s new lead vocalist. This led to five years of collaboration and touring with San Fermin, with Kaye’s blistering frontwoman energy propelling their albums Jackrabbit and Belong to international audiences and festivals worldwide. This included tours supporting alt-J, The National, and St. Vincent.
She released the critically acclaimed album Conscious Control, her first full-length in four years, in November 2020.

And it’s all my fault
So I begin at the beginning
Alone in the dark
Earthrise from Saturn
Returned on the mark
I begin at the beginning
Bodiless but conscious
Infinite but godless
Deep into the void
Waiting to begin
Deep into the void
If you need me, I’ll be
Floating in slow motion
Waiting for the explosion
Floating in slow motion
Waiting for the explosion
Cut my ties, set a torch to my life
I’m a mess to behold
Serves me right if I die on this highway by crying on the road
Still see your face in the glow of the planets
Yeah, it was real, we were happy, we had it
But I changed
I didn’t plan it
Deep into the void
Waiting to begin
Deep into the void
If you need me, I’ll be
Floating in slow motion
Waiting for the explosion
Floating in slow motion
Waiting for the explosion
The lyrics of Kaye's song "Earthrise" deal with feelings of regret, loss, and loneliness. The song begins with the admission that the singer has lost their love, and takes the blame for it being their fault. They then enter a space-like state, referring to Earthrise from Saturn, returning to the mark, and beginning at the beginning, alone in the dark. The singer describes themselves as bodiless but conscious, infinite but godless, and waiting to begin deep into the void. They are floating in slow motion, waiting for an explosion, indicating a sense of longing or anticipation for something to happen.
The second verse describes the singer's emotional state and further expresses their regret for the lost relationship. They cut their ties and have set a torch to their life, indicating a sense of wanting to start anew. However, they also recognize that they are a mess to behold and may not succeed. The singer states that they still see their love's face in the glow of the planets and that it was real and happy, but that they changed and did not plan for it to happen.
Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of someone who has lost someone they deeply cared for and takes responsibility for the loss. They feel lost and alone, waiting for something to change, and struggling with the emotional aftermath of the relationship's end.
