This Is Me
Kaz Hawkins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take a look at yourself
What have you become
Are you all that you aimed to be?
Or just another bum
Drinking for fun
A dream or a reality?

Does it seem out of scenes
Make your choice to your dance
Get help and get off the flow
Pick it up and leave town
Another show, another town
Is it all that you wanted to be?

This is me
This is all I wanted to be
This is me
This is all I wanted
It's all I wanted
This is... me

Take a look at yourself
What have you become
Till the nights wake you up in the day
Do you feel guilt inside from hitchin' that ride
To this base you wanted to see
Dead and deep, needin' sleep
Rode again, never ends
You feel like it's a scream and a shout
Pack it up, set it out
Seems you're stuck with a rack
Of a mountain of music to be

This is me
This is all I wanted to be
This is me, yeah
This is all I wanted
It's all I wanted
This is me

This is me
This is all I wanted to be
This is me
This is all I wanted
This is me
It's all I wanted to be
This is me
It's all I wanted
This is all I wanted
Yes, it's all I wanted

This is all I wanted
This is... me

Overall Meaning

In "This Is Me," Kaz Hawkins asks listeners to take a long look at themselves and question whether they are fulfilling their aspirations or simply living as another aimless individual. The song's opening lines ask, "Take a look at yourself/What have you become/Are you all that you aimed to be?" Kaz Hawkins is urging people to assess where they are in life and decide whether they are happy with their accomplishments, or they are merely apathetic about their progress in life. The song further reminds us, "You're drinking for fun/A dream or a reality?" The lyrics suggest that, while drinking may have originated as a fun and lighthearted activity, it may have been warped into a crutch, numbing the pain of an unfulfilling life.

The song's chorus, "This is me/This is all I wanted to be," indicates that the singer has discovered her genuine self, and she is living and thriving as the best version of herself. The lyrics "Is it all that you wanted to be?" is a reminder that change is possible, and we can redefine ourselves by making different life choices. The overall theme of the song seems to be that by being genuine to oneself, one can achieve true happiness and inner peace.

Sometimes an artist produces something so awe inspiring that there are actually no words to describe it because words like awesome, amazing or wonderful are so inadequate...this is one of those times. So all I can humbly say is thank you for your music and for reminding me that when I face the world today I can say, "this is me and it's all I ever wanted to be." We still gotta get you to California after all the craziness ends. Again, thank you so much for your music because you have people like me that truly appreciates it and need to hear it.
