Dreamers searchin' for the truth
Go on, read about us in the news
Pretty reckless, pretty wild
Talking shit and we'll just smile
Don't you see these fuckin' crowns?
If you know what I mean, you on the team
Yeah, we keep on sinning, yeah, we keep on singing
Flying down the highway, backseat of the Hyundai
Pull it to the front, let it run, we don't valet
Sorry if you're starstruck, blame it on the stardust
I know that I'm perfect, even though I'm fucked up
Hymn for the hymnless, don't need no forgiveness
'Cause if there's a heaven, don't care if we get in
This is a hymn, hymn, hymn for how we live, live, live
This is a hymn, hymn, hymn for how we live, for how we live
After all we've been through, no, we won't stand and salute
So we just ride, we just cruise, livin' like there's nothing left to lose
If we die before we wake, who we are is no mistake
This is just the way we're made
You know what I mean, you on the team
This is a hymn for the hymnless, kids with no religion
Yeah, we keep on sinning, yeah, we keep on singing
Flying down the highway, backseat of the Hyundai
Pull it to the front, let it run, we don't valet
Sorry if you're starstruck, blame it on the stardust
I know that I'm perfect, even though I'm fucked up
Hymn for the hymnless, don't need no forgiveness
'Cause if there's a heaven, don't care if we get in
This is a hymn, hymn, hymn for how we live, live, live
This is a hymn, hymn, hymn for how we live, for how we live
Ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh ooh
This is a hymn for the hymnless, kids with no religion
Yeah, we keep on sinning, yeah, we keep on singing
Flying down the highway, yeah, we do it our way
High as outer space, we don't hear what the rest say
Sorry if you're starstruck, blame it on the stardust
I know that I'm perfect, even though I'm fucked up
Hymn for the hymnless, don't need no forgiveness
'Cause if there's a heaven, don't care if we get in
This is a hymn, hymn, hymn for how we live, live, live
This is a hymn, hymn, hymn for how we live, for how we live
The lyrics of Ke$ha’s “Hymn” speak to those who live life on their terms and do not conform to societal norms. The song is an anthem for those who do not have a religion or feel like they do not fit into traditional categories. The lyrics emphasize the importance of individuality and finding one’s own truth, rather than following someone else's beliefs blindly.
The first verse highlights the uniqueness of the singer and her group of people. They shine brighter than the stars and the moon, because they are living authentically and unapologetically. These “dreamers” are the subject of the news, as they are seen as reckless and wild, but they are undeterred by any negativity that comes their way. The singer asserts that this group has “crowns,” which signifies their value and self-worth. The chorus reinforces this message, emphasizing that religion and societal expectations do not dictate how one should live. The repetition of the lines “this is a hymn for the hymnless, kids with no religion” and “hymn for the hymnless, don't need no forgiveness” reiterates that this group is charting their own path and does not seek the validation of others.
The second verse continues the theme of independence and individuality, emphasizing that this group will not conform to tradition or blindly follow authority. They will live their lives without regrets, and if they die, they will be happy knowing that they were true to themselves. The chorus repeats again, with the addition of more fantastical and adventurous imagery (“flying down the highway,” “high as outer space”). The song ultimately celebrates those who live life outside of prescribed norms and encourages others to do the same.

Hmm. My interpretation of the music video:
The car is her career throughout the years. It drives her on the highway. She has no control, but still she's calm because she can see the dawn in the horizon, which is hope.
The people are her fans, who have seen/heard her (literally seen the headlights of her car, metaphorically have listened to her music) and that's why they come together. They believe in her and that she is more.
Then the car literally becomes the spotlight, so throughout her career she has built a way of communicating with people, a channel, a connection. But now she's grown up and can't take the control anymore so she steps out of the car.
The starship might symbolise liberation and the fall of an old regime, the start of something new. They all dance to celebrate that and she feels good in the presence of those that are like her (that's us, the animals aka Kesha's fandom).
The car is abducted so that she could be free, so she walks into the break of dawn, on her own path. I believe the walking means she chooses her own pace now, so she's in control. No more strings.
The car's number plate says "K15NAL13N" which stands for "Kesha is an alien". That somehow explains why she's not abducted by the starship. She is different and she knows it and she let people control her for way too long. Now she's ready to face her destiny and to accomplish her mission here. The aliens were not there to take her back yet, they just came to rescue her.
Musically, the song is an anthem of self empowerment, especially during hard times. That is the main theme of the music video as well, so they are very in sync.
I appreciate Kesha for her creativity and for the courage to stand up for herself. Maybe my interpretation is not THE ONE, but I consider an artist is a true artist when their craft can transcend the limits and can become and mean different things for different minds. ❤️
