Keb' Mo' is one of the foremost contemporary blues artists. With an endearing sense of faith in humanity evident on most of his tracks and a very interestingly textured voice, this man has successfully merged traditional Delta blues and modern acoustic singer-songwritership. While it's a stretch to call him a traditionalist, Keb' Mo' plays a mean guitar, and the meticulously played guitar on each one of his songs is awe-inspiring.
After spending his early career backing blues artists up, he released his debut album in 1994. He also appeared in Scorsese's film about the blues. As the only man to my knowlege that has incorporated the word "internet" into a blues song, it is clear that Keb' Mo' is unique and has, in an unprecedented manner, carved out his own genre that never fails to make the listener smile.
Get Together
Keb' Mo' Lyrics

and fear's the way we die,
You can make the mountains ring
or make the angels cry,
Tho' the bird is on the wing
and you may not know why.
C'mon people, now
ev'ry-body get together,
try to love one another right now.
Some will come and some will go
and we shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
returns for us at last
We are but a moments sunlight
fading in the grass.
C'mon people, now
smile on your brother,
ev'ry-body get together,
try to love one another right now.
If you hear the song I sing
you will understand
You hold the key to love and fear
in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both,
it's there at your command.
C'mon people, now
smile on your brother,
ev'ry-body get together,
try to love one another right now.
The lyrics of "Get Together" by Keb' Mo' is a gentle reminder to humanity about the importance of love, peace, and harmony in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. The song opens with a reflection on the power of love which is likened to a song. In contrast, fear is portrayed as a destructive force that leads to death. The singer urges listeners to use their power to bring light to darkness, to bring joy to sadness, and to bring healing to pain. The lines “You can make the mountains ring or make the angels cry, Tho' the bird is on the wing and you may not know why” suggest that our actions and words have the power to create change even if we are unaware of the impact.
The chorus of the song is a call to take action towards creating unity and togetherness. “C'mon people, now smile on your brother, ev'ry-body get together, try to love one another right now” invites listeners to extend a hand of love to one another to promote harmony, irrespective of race, religion, or any other divisive factor. The lines “Some will come and some will go and we shall surely pass When the one that left us here returns for us at last We are but a moments sunlight fading in the grass” highlight that life is but a fleeting moment, and with this realization, it is important to live in peace and love as we await the one that left us here (death).
The third verse of the song encourages listeners to embrace love, as it is the only key that can unlock both love and fear. The singer urges listeners to have the courage and strength to love, even though it may require vulnerability. The song ends with the final call to action for all to come together in love and harmony, to bring peace to the world.
Overall, "Get Together" by Keb' Mo' sends a message of hope and love, encouraging unity and resilience during times of uncertainty.

Love is but a song we sing
Love is like a melody that we create
and fear's the way we die,
Fear is a path that leads us towards death
You can make the mountains ring
You have the power to create something great and powerful
or make the angels cry,
You also have the power to cause harm
Tho' the bird is on the wing
Even if things seem uncertain or inexplicable
and you may not know why.
And you might not understand why things happen the way they do
C'mon people, now
Hey, everyone, let's go!
smile on your brother,
Show kindness and compassion towards your fellow human beings
ev'ry-body get together,
Let's all come together in harmony
try to love one another right now.
Let's make an effort to love one another in this moment
Some will come and some will go
People enter and leave our lives
and we shall surely pass
And we, too, will eventually leave this world
When the one that left us here
When those who have passed on before us return
returns for us at last
And we join them once more
We are but a moments sunlight
We are a fleeting moment in time
fading in the grass.
And like the grass, we will eventually wither away
If you hear the song I sing
If you listen to the message that I am sharing
you will understand
You will gain a greater understanding of life
You hold the key to love and fear
You have the power to choose between love and fear
in your trembling hand
And this power may make you feel uncertain or scared
Just one key unlocks them both,
But remember, only one key is needed to unlock love and fear
it's there at your command.
And it is completely within your control
