Keb' Mo' is one of the foremost contemporary blues artists. With an endearing sense of faith in humanity evident on most of his tracks and a very interestingly textured voice, this man has successfully merged traditional Delta blues and modern acoustic singer-songwritership. While it's a stretch to call him a traditionalist, Keb' Mo' plays a mean guitar, and the meticulously played guitar on each one of his songs is awe-inspiring.
After spending his early career backing blues artists up, he released his debut album in 1994. He also appeared in Scorsese's film about the blues. As the only man to my knowlege that has incorporated the word "internet" into a blues song, it is clear that Keb' Mo' is unique and has, in an unprecedented manner, carved out his own genre that never fails to make the listener smile.
Victims Of Comfort

There's no escaping the enemy he's you and I
We poison up our water, we're chokin' on the air
Last stop before it gets too late or is it already too late?
Is it already too late
For the victims of comfort?
Got no one else to blame
We cannot soothe the pain
And it's a technological merry-go-round
Dangerous solutions buried under the ground
And everyone likes a party
But no-one wants to clean
Well I'd like to see a change somehow and I believe we're busy right now
Just a little busy right now
I am just a victim of comfort
I got no one else to blame
I'm just a victim of comfort
Cryin' shame
Boy what have we got to lose? Everything
Yes and what do we stand to gain? Everything, so let's
Try together before we have to cry together
It's too soon to die together
I'm just a victim of comfort
Got no one else to blame
I'm just a victim of comfort
Got to soothe the pain
Be the victims of comfort
Got no one else to blame
I am just a victim of comfort
Cryin' shame
The song "Victims of Comfort" by Keb' Mo' speaks about how we, as humans, are responsible for the destruction of our planet and how we are also the ones affected by it. The lyrics describe how we have slowly destroyed the environment through our actions and how we are now feeling the effects of it. The first verse talks about how we are the enemy of the environment and there is no escape from ourselves. We have poisoned our water and air, and we are rapidly approaching a point where we may not be able to reverse the damage.
The chorus talks about how we are just victims of our own comfort. We have become too comfortable with our current way of living that we have allowed the destruction of our planet to proceed without taking action. And now, we are the ones feeling the effects of our inaction. The second verse describes how we have become too dependent on technology, which is causing more harm than good. We continue to bury dangerous solutions underground instead of finding safer alternatives. We prefer to have fun rather than clean up after ourselves.
The song ends with a plea to come together and try to make a change before it's too late. We have everything to lose if we don't act, but we also have everything to gain if we do. The overall message of the song is that we need to take responsibility for the environment and make changes in our lifestyle to reduce our impact on the planet.
