I like Louis Prima's music, but the parts in this song about 'hitting in the eye', I am not sure what to make of that.

Is it like hitting in the eye with a pie? Or something more serious?

I hope/ it probably is the first one, with a pie. But I just wanted to ask here.

Funny, you heard the first line "... I'd hit you in the eye..." but you didn't hear Keely's reply? "I'd like to see you try." AND they were divorced, in due course.

I'll tell you something else, too; I don't get why people get so offended by ART because of the content, instead of recognizing Fiction for what it is. It's too easy and simple to virtue signal for "never hitting a woman" while being a regularly abusive arsehole, ain't it? I'd also draw your attention to the first season of "Star Trek" in which Captain Kirk tells Charlie X "Charlie, there's no right way to hit a woman, " which is a much different statement than "You should never hit a woman."

I am also very confused about this line. The rest of the song sounds romantic, not jokingly arguing type. In some lyrics version there is "itch you in your eye" but it doesn't make much sense, does it? (I'm not a native English speaker)

@Miss K I now think it is just about hitting each other "in the eye" (face) with a pie, something comedic. A light-hearted, jokingly argument with a pie fight or something like that. Keely sings about baking a pie after all.

Plus it wouldn't make sense for this happy sounding song to be about something as serious as actually hitting each other.
