Born To Die
Kelly Clarkson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We don't hope for makin' things better
All we want is to keep it together
Every day is a rainy day, no changin' the weather
This kind of life has made our hearts as hard as leather

And all these tears are from the dust in our eyes
And all these years just keep on passin' us by
And all this misery makes it hard to deny
We all know that we're just born to die
That's the way it goes when you're just born to die

I hear the voice of a whip-poor-will singin'
She don't know all the comfort she's bringin'
We all know the sound of when the truth is ringin'
Yeah, it hurts your soul just like a bumble bee stingin'

All these tears are from the dust in our eyes
And all these years just keep on passin' us by
And all this misery makes it hard to deny
We all know that we're just born to die
That's the way it goes when you're just born to die

All these tears are from the dust in our eyes
And all these years just keep on passin' us by
And all this misery makes it hard to deny
We all know that we're just born to die

'Cause we all know that we're just born to die
That's the way it goes when you're just born to die

Overall Meaning

In Kelly Clarkson's "Born to Die" lyrics, the singer reflects on the harsh realities of life and how it has hardened the hearts of those around her. The lyrics paint a picture of a bleak outlook on life, where they don't hope for a better future, but instead, they focus on just getting by to keep their lives from falling apart. The imagery of a rainy day and the unchanging weather represents the monotony and stagnation of their lives.

The phrase, "All these tears are from the dust in our eyes" speaks to the fact that they have been blinded by their struggles and troubles. The passage of time and their misery have made it difficult to deny that their fate, like all humans, is to eventually die. The whip-poor-will's voice offers comfort, but it is short-lived, and the truth of their reality eventually takes hold again.

Overall, "Born to Die" is a thought-provoking song that offers a reflection on the harsh realities and the inevitability of life's end. It is a reminder that even in the face of our struggles, we must carry on with determination and resolve, knowing that the ultimate outcome is death.

Honestly this was the only song that really hit me hard in the movie. Life is not always all about rainbows and cupcakes sometimes life is also made up of storms that will teach us how to stand and face it.

@riverbarry9903

That’s exactly what the movie is also telling us lol

Red Boah Sutherland the first one was about the length people go to maintain happiness, or the illusion of it.

A lot of people don't understand that and think it was about you must be happy.

Chef for example uses happiness to control her fellow Bergens, dangling Trolls in front of them as "look, you know that feeling of misery I can take away with this thing...?" And the problem with sadness if you can be trapped like Branch in a single event, think about it he never got over the idea that he was responsible for his grandma's death. But it wasn't his thought, it was Chef's fault for taking her and Branch kinda represents those hurt by the Bergens over time. Trollstice took away loved ones and likely left lots of broken hearted Trolls.

Meanwhile Poppy has no idea what sadness is so when she finds it she basically gives up hope and the others follow suite. If you misinterpret something you miss kinda the darker parts of the first movie. One note I've always made is its likely the reason the Pop Trolls focus on being happy is that they had to keep living as every Trollstice they didn't know what was going to happen. It painted their entire lives.

"Sometimes life is also made up of storms that will teach us how to stand and face it" Damn...truer words had never been this beautiful.

I wanted this song right after hearing it in the movie. Like wow. It only could have been someone like her. And it represents exactly what country is about. The soul. A tragic or sad song can make someone feel good. It shows how complicated emotions work.

@blueberry_kat3798

That was so emotional you almost made me cry 😭

@Peppermon22

Yes this was my favorite in the movie
