I_Forgive_You
Kelly Clarkson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I forgive you, I forgive me
Now when do I start to feel again
I forgive you, I forgive me
Now when do I start to feel again

'Cause the lights are on
But I'm never home
But I'll be back with a brand new attitude
'Cause I forgive you

I forgive you
We were just a couple of kids
Trying to figure out how to live
Doing it our way
No shame, no blame
'Cause the damage is done
And I forgive you
I forgive you
We were busy living the dream
Never noticed the glass ceiling falling on us
No shame, no blame
'Cause the damage is done
And I forgive you

I forgive you, I forgive me
Now do I start to feel again
If I hate you, what does that do
So I breathe in and I count to 10

'Cause the lights are on
And I'm coming home
Yes I am back
With a new heart in my hand
'Cause I forgive you

I forgive you
We were just a couple of kids
Trying to figure out how to live
Doing it our way
No shame, no blame
'Cause the damage is done
And I forgive you
I forgive you
We were busy living the dream
Never noticed the glass ceiling falling on us
No shame, no blame
'Cause the damage is done
And I forgive you

I forgive you
For every time that I cried
Over some stupid thing you did to hurt me
That's alright, yeah I forgive you

I forgive you
We were just a couple of kids
Trying to figure out how to live
Doing it our way
No shame, no blame
'Cause the damage is done
And I forgive you

I forgive you
We were just a couple of kids
Trying to figure out how to live
Doing it our way
No shame, no blame
'Cause the damage is done
And I forgive you
I forgive you
We were busy living the dream
Never noticed the glass ceiling falling on us
No shame, no blame

'Cause the damage is done
And I forgive you

Overall Meaning

The song "I Forgive You" by Kelly Clarkson is a powerful message of forgiveness and coming to terms with past mistakes in a relationship. The singer addresses both herself and her partner, explaining that she forgives both of them for their past wrongs, and wonders when she will be able to begin feeling again. The lyrics suggest that the reason she is not feeling anything at the moment is due to the fact that she is not home, and the lights may be on but she is not there. However, she promises to return with a new attitude and heart in hand.

The chorus is the most powerful part of the song, as the singer repeats the phrase "I forgive you" over and over again. It is clear that she wants to move past the hurt and pain that were caused in the past, and this is the only way she knows how to do it. The verses give insight into the relationship, explaining that they were just kids who were learning how to live, and that they made mistakes that caused damage. However, there is no blame or shame, as the damage has already been done, and forgiveness is necessary in order to heal.

Overall, the song is a beautiful message of hope, love, and forgiveness. It is an important reminder that even when relationships are difficult and painful, forgiveness is always possible, and sometimes it is necessary in order to move on.

Me too.
Im so glad I found this thread. I looked on reddit first and couldnt believe I only found 2 posts with 5 comments. I felt like I was the only one who felt it resonate with me so much personally.
The reddit posts tho were about the binary code running on the screen in post covid return of covid... in the lab around 8 min in... was wondering if anyone had decoded it... sadly it seemed not....
If anyone reads this and can decode binary the code was repeating:

This song was just chosen so perfectly. You think it’s gonna be a big bite of cheese but it just hits so hard. Such a beautiful episode.

Cartman unfortunately honestly deserved the ending he got. He has done some tremendously horrendous things. It makes sense that the only positive outcome is when everyone else has a negative outcome.

_____\o/______/\________
I remember waking up to a new reality,
And how I spent most of that time laterally.
Worked myself to the bone;
Renting a new home.

I put forth so much energy,
Origin was never known.

I feel like I’m walking in a circle.
And lately praying for some kind of miracle.
I woke up in my own puke,
I woke up to my tv riding an intertube.
I learned my lessons, at least for now.

I just don’t know how, to regain the passion I hid.

I just want to prove, that there’s an outcome, from working yourself up.
I thought I wasn’t tough enough but I fucking prevailed.

But still.

The biggest nail in the coffin,
Is that I never knew why.
Why did this need to happen.
I just wanted to prosper.
Why did this need to happen.
I just wanted to prosper.

this is often forgotten about. Also an amazing moment!

Man, I almost cried watching the whole scene. It was so emotional. I've grown up watching this show and now seeing them middle-aged with kids hit right in the feels, but it's not just that, the fact that Stan and Kyle finally had their happy ending was so, so comforting :') and even though I don't really like Cartman, I felt bad for him, or just his first future-self and family, he literally gave up everything at the end bc he loved them (and yeah, I know what he did in the entire series, he's not a saint but I still feel empathy yk, he's a fictional character after all). Either way, this was the best episode South Park aired 'til now, IMO. Outstanding.

@benjaminljt88

I think that's what's so cool about watching the last 24 years. Cartman was evil but to see so much change in 2 movies. It's like you're watching someone grow up

@saidraalien6837

It is the most emotional series scene in south park to date. (by far) Definitely a tear jerker.

@georgettehelena

Ngl I straight cried

@DanTheMan317

I wasn't expecting insightful South Park discussion, but that's what brought me here, and I'm glad I found it.

@dameanic11

I choose to forgive and understand because i'll never forget.
