I Dare You
Kelly Clarkson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a wolf that preys on a world
That strays so far from the Garden (oh)
And just like your own
Every heart you know seems cold and hardened (oh)
You may not have the stage, but you still have a voice
You may not have the strength, but if you have a choice

I dare you to love
Oh, I dare you to love
Even if you're hurt and you can only see the worst
Even if you think it's not enough
Oh, I dare you to love

We're all full of hope, tryna stay afloat, tryna save one another
People let you drown 'cause they don't know how to stay above water (oh)
When they're too broken to know what they've put you through
Do the only thing that you'd want done to you

Oh, I dare you to love (dare you to love)
Oh, I dare you to love (I dare you to love)
Even if you're hurt and you can only see the worst (oh)
Even if you think it's not enough
Oh, I dare you to love

I dare you to love, oh

You may not have the stage, but you still have a voice
You may not have the strength, but if you have a choice

I dare you to love, even if you can't
No, I dare you to love
Oh, even if you're hurt
And you can only see the worst (even if you only)
Even if you think it's not enough
Oh, I, I dare you

I dare you
Oh, I, I dare you to love

Overall Meaning

The song "I Dare You" by Kelly Clarkson is a powerful message about love and daring listeners to love even when they feel hurt and alone. The lyrics begin by acknowledging the struggles of the modern world, where people have strayed so far from the metaphorical Garden of Eden, and our hearts have become cold and hardened. Despite this, the song continues to emphasize that everyone has a voice and a choice to love, even when it seems impossible. The lyrics dare the listener to love, regardless of the worst that may come with it.

The song is a call to action, encouraging listeners to stay hopeful and to save one another, even in the face of adversity. More often than not, people who surround us end up letting us down and leave us feeling broken-hearted. However, the song encourages us to do unto others as we would have done to us. We should, therefore, take the noble route of loving even when we have been hurt, and when we think it is not enough.

Overall, "I Dare You" is a song about hope, love, and courage. It encourages individuals to have an unwavering commitment to love, even when the world seems to be falling apart.

One of the best projects she has ever done! Not many artists in her league would go through the work to learn to sing in 5 different languages for one song. I truly admire this woman.

I'm a big fan of Kelly and I like the ideea, the artists from other countries I supposed are very well-known in their countries, I'm a fan of ZAZ, the french artist, she is the only one that I've known before. And I supposed Kelly dind't learn so many languages in just one month of isolation, I supposed she just phoneticaly learned the chorus.

Annie r u ok?

lentilovski l she doesn’t sing English in the other versions. It’s quite impressive 🙃

@Annie r u ok? I love Kelly so much, as I said, I'm a big fan. Tonight I've listen on the English version for the first time and I've loved the verses, I was expecting much more on the chorus. After few hours of listening all the versions of the song in different languages I understand why it wasn't some special vocals in the song. I'm not impressed that she doesn't sing English in other version (it's easy for some people with great hearing and musical talent to memorized the phonetics of words), I'm more impressed by the control of her voice and not letting her voice fly away.

She did? Dang, that deserves respect right there.

I wasn't sure what you were talking about and was expecting it to be just Spanish which is pretty common for artists nowadays but i was shocked to find out she did Arabic and Hebrew so well (given it's 2 of the many languages i speak).... I have never seen this being attempted before so it's truly shocking....
She clearly put an effort into listening and pronouncing things just as they were taught to her!
I'd love it if she recorded Russian and Japanese as i speak those too and would love to see how well she could do
