I Don't Think About You
Kelly Clarkson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When you're lost in the moment
You can't see where you going
I didn't who I could trust
So I put all my faith in us
Oh, you tore me to pieces
Turned my strength into weakness
I didn't want it all to fall apart
So I decided just to play the part

But honestly, I do it all again
Putting up with all the bullshit, he made me strong enough to do this

It used to bother me
Thought I could never leave?
After all that I've been through, nothin' left to prove
No, no, no, I don't think about you
Weighin' down on me
I lost my sanity
And now that we are through
Nothin' left to lose
No, no, no, I don't think about you

I feel freedom where I stand now
And I feel proud from who I am now
Yeah, I learned a lot along the way
I love the woman that I became

I was patient, but not anymore
He's back in my hands
And you swore I'll never do it
But it's your turn to face the music

It used to bother me
Thought I could never leave?
After all that I've been through, nothin' left to prove
No, no, no, I don't think about you
Weighin' down on me
I lost my sanity
And now that we are through
Nothin' left to lose
No, no, no, I don't think about you

It was hard to hold on
Days and nights I thought I'd never make at all
Couldn't make it at all
Now I stand tall
Feeling like myself again, no worries at all
Breathe
No one can stop me from livin' this moment for me
I found my heartbeat
After all that I've been through
No, I don't think about you

It used to bother me (it used to bother me)
Thought I could never leave? (Thought I could never leave?)
After all that I've been through (through) nothin' left to prove (prove)
No, no, no, I don't think about you
Weighin' down on me (weighin' down on me)
I found my sanity (I found my sanity)
And now that we are through (through)
Nothin' left to lose (lose)
No, no, no, I don't think about you

I don't think about you (no)
(No, no, no) no, no, no
(Not anymore) not anymore

No, no, no
I don't think about you

Overall Meaning

The song "I Don't Think About You" by Kelly Clarkson is a powerful anthem about moving on from a toxic relationship and finding strength in oneself. The song begins by acknowledging the feeling of being lost in a relationship, not knowing who can be trusted, and putting all the faith in the relationship. But as the relationship crumbles and the partner tears the singer apart, she decides to play the part and keep it together. While looking back, she realizes that going through all the pain made her stronger.

The chorus is a declaration of freedom and self-love, saying that she no longer bothers about the past relationship and is not weighed down by it. She acknowledges that it was difficult to hold on, and there were days and nights where she thought she would never make it at all, but now she stands tall and feels like herself again. The bridge then shifts the tone to address the ex-partner that swore she wouldn't make it, and it's now their turn to face the music. The song ends with the singer asserting her independence, saying that she found her heartbeat, and no one can stop her from living in the moment.

Overall, "I Don't Think About You" is a powerful song about moving on from a relationship that could be relatable to many individuals who went through similar experiences. The lyrics encourage individuals to find strength within themselves, let go of the past, and move forward towards a better future.

I really love the line “I feel freedom when I stand now, I feel proud of who I am now, I’ve learned a lot along the way, I love the woman I’ve became”. That’s a line that everyone should relate to - you don’t have to have had an abusive mom or dad or a garbage relationship - my condolences go out to anyone who has had to go through that. Everyone is who they are now because of what they are now because of what happened to them when they were young. What happened to you makes you strong. I love that line of the song in particular. Kelly always has been a uniting force as a singer and as a person - it reminds me of why I became a fan of hers in the first place. And that voice....
