I Saw You
Kelly Clarkson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a wolf that preys on a world
That strays so far from the Garden (oh)
And just like your own
Every heart you know seems cold and hardened (oh)
You may not have the stage, but you still have a voice
You may not have the strength, but if you have a choice

I dare you to love
Oh, I dare you to love
Even if you're hurt and you can only see the worst
Even if you think it's not enough
Oh, I dare you to love

We're all full of hope, tryna stay afloat, tryna save one another
People let you drown 'cause they don't know how to stay above water (oh)
When they're too broken to know what they've put you through
Do the only thing that you'd want done to you

Oh, I dare you to love (dare you to love)
Oh, I dare you to love (I dare you to love)
Even if you're hurt and you can only see the worst (oh)
Even if you think it's not enough
Oh, I dare you to love

I dare you to love, oh

You may not have the stage, but you still have a voice
You may not have the strength, but if you have a choice

I dare you to love, even if you can't
No, I dare you to love
Oh, even if you're hurt
And you can only see the worst (even if you only)
Even if you think it's not enough
Oh, I, I dare you

I dare you
Oh, I, I dare you to love

Overall Meaning

The song "I Dare You" by Kelly Clarkson is a powerful message about love and daring listeners to love even when they feel hurt and alone. The lyrics begin by acknowledging the struggles of the modern world, where people have strayed so far from the metaphorical Garden of Eden, and our hearts have become cold and hardened. Despite this, the song continues to emphasize that everyone has a voice and a choice to love, even when it seems impossible. The lyrics dare the listener to love, regardless of the worst that may come with it.

The song is a call to action, encouraging listeners to stay hopeful and to save one another, even in the face of adversity. More often than not, people who surround us end up letting us down and leave us feeling broken-hearted. However, the song encourages us to do unto others as we would have done to us. We should, therefore, take the noble route of loving even when we have been hurt, and when we think it is not enough.

Overall, "I Dare You" is a song about hope, love, and courage. It encourages individuals to have an unwavering commitment to love, even when the world seems to be falling apart.

I really love the line “I feel freedom when I stand now, I feel proud of who I am now, I’ve learned a lot along the way, I love the woman I’ve became”. That’s a line that everyone should relate to - you don’t have to have had an abusive mom or dad or a garbage relationship - my condolences go out to anyone who has had to go through that. Everyone is who they are now because of what they are now because of what happened to them when they were young. What happened to you makes you strong. I love that line of the song in particular. Kelly always has been a uniting force as a singer and as a person - it reminds me of why I became a fan of hers in the first place. And that voice....
