Where Are You Now
Kelly Clarkson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You said you'd be here
Well, I've been waiting way too long now
And still there's no sound of you in the distance
If you're even coming, I'm through praying
I keep getting guys busy line

You said you'd be here
But don't worry, baby
You're not the first disappeared

Where are you now? Where are you now?
Just when I crumble, now that I'm falling down
Where are you now? Where are you now?
Now that I need you the most
Just when I thought I was home

Well, I've gotten used to it, I don't ever miss you
Can't remember why I've been crying
I don't feel it anymore
I'm so used to seeing that damn dark clouds

Where are you now? Where are you now?
Just when I crumble, now that I'm falling down
Where are you now? Where are you now?
Now that I need you the most

All your letters and all your kisses
And all your words, they don't mean anything
All my thoughts and all the time we spent
All those memories, I'm erasing

With all my heart and soul
I'm all out of hope
I guess I'm through lying to myself

'Cause you said you'd be here
I'm looking around
And you're nowhere near, baby

Where are you now? Where are you now?
Just when I crumble, now that I'm falling down
Where are you now? Where are you now?
Now that I need you the most

You're holding somebody else
Just when I thought I was home

Overall Meaning

In Kelly Clarkson’s song ‘Where Are You Now,’ she sings about a significant other who promised to be there but hasn’t shown up. The waiting has become exhausting, and she’s losing faith that they’ll ever come. She’s frustrated with their lack of communication and tired of constantly getting their busy signal when she calls. Clarkson is losing hope and begins to question their relationship.

Clarkson quickly realizes that her significant other isn’t the first person to disappear on her - this may be a recurring pattern in her relationships. She is falling apart, and she desperately needs someone to turn to, but that person isn’t there. She’s confused about what’s going on and begins to accept that there might not even be an answer.

In the end, she comes to terms with the fact that her significant other isn’t coming back. She tries to erase all of the memories and hold on to hope, but it’s just not there anymore. She reflects on the promises they made and the moments they shared, but it all seems trivial now that they’ve left her hanging. As the song ends, she realizes that they’re holding somebody else and that she’s completely alone.
