Sweet and her mother eventually went on the road for two years, traveling back and forth between Kanab, Las Vegas and Los Angeles in search of performance opportunities.
At 14, the singer opened for Kenny Loggins in Las Vegas, United States. After hearing Sweet's demo CD, the Los Angeles Lakers NBA team booked Sweet to sing the national anthem on three occasions.
Sweet eventually met Grammy-nominated producer, arranger and songwriter Mark Portmann (Josh Groban, Celine Dion) in July of 2004, and the two began working together shortly thereafter.
Sweet was featured in a USA Today article in July, 2006 on up-and-coming "serious female singers."
In October, 2006, Sweet released an EP from which the songs "We Are One" and "Ready For Love" have been used on episodes of two daytime dramas, the NBC TV series Passions and the ABC TV series One Life to Live, respectively. "We Are One" was also featured on the NBC series Las Vegas in the spring of 2007.
Sweet opened for Paul Simon on tour in July and October, 2006, and also appeared at the New York Mets-St. Louis Cardinals NLCS baseball playoff game on October 17, 2006, where she sang an a cappella rendition of "God Bless America."
Her debut album, entitled We Are One, was released by the Razor and Tie label on March 6, 2007.
Kelly sang the National Anthem before the San Diego Padres baseball game against the New York Mets at Petco Park in San Diego, California on Tuesday July 17, 2007.
Recently, remixes for Kelly's song "We Are One" were done by Dave Aude, Radioactive Sandwich, Matt Piso, and Electronathon.
Her cover of the Aerosmith classic Dream On was being played on adult contemporary format radio stations such as Hartford's WRCH, Manchester's WZID, and Seattle's KWJZ.

All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by, like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay
I know it's everybody's sin
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you away
Oh
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream until your dreams come true
Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream until your dream comes through
Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream on, dream on
Dream on, dream on
Every time I look in the mirror
The past is gone
In "Dream On," Kelly Sweet uses the imagery of looking in the mirror and seeing lines on her face to reflect on the passage of time and the inevitability of aging. She realizes that the past is gone and cannot be changed, much like the way dusk turns into dawn. The lyrics suggest that everyone has to pay their dues in life, sometimes through loss and hardship, in order to come out on the other side and truly appreciate what they have. She ends the song by encouraging the listener to keep dreaming until those dreams come true.
The chorus of the song, "Sing with me, sing for the year/Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears/Sing with me, if it's just for today/Maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you away," encourages the listener to find joy in the present moment and to use music as a way to connect with others and express their feelings. The lines "it's everybody's sin/You got to lose to know how to win" suggest that sometimes we have to go through difficult experiences in order to learn and grow.

How wonderful that you knew her Mom...
Saddened for you missing her in your life..
My heart has always gone out to Kelly,....
Remembering both her parents, so supportive of her and her career...
Then to have lost them both in such a very short period of time....
How devastating for her.
When, she came back to the stage again...
It was with a different genre...
My prayers are with her always.

Best cover of "Dream On" I've ever heard. It draws you in and engulfs you. I just now "discovered" Kelly's version. Published in 2006, I feel like I've been gipped out of 16 years of enjoyment.
