Sweet and her mother eventually went on the road for two years, traveling back and forth between Kanab, Las Vegas and Los Angeles in search of performance opportunities.
At 14, the singer opened for Kenny Loggins in Las Vegas, United States. After hearing Sweet's demo CD, the Los Angeles Lakers NBA team booked Sweet to sing the national anthem on three occasions.
Sweet eventually met Grammy-nominated producer, arranger and songwriter Mark Portmann (Josh Groban, Celine Dion) in July of 2004, and the two began working together shortly thereafter.
Sweet was featured in a USA Today article in July, 2006 on up-and-coming "serious female singers."
In October, 2006, Sweet released an EP from which the songs "We Are One" and "Ready For Love" have been used on episodes of two daytime dramas, the NBC TV series Passions and the ABC TV series One Life to Live, respectively. "We Are One" was also featured on the NBC series Las Vegas in the spring of 2007.
Sweet opened for Paul Simon on tour in July and October, 2006, and also appeared at the New York Mets-St. Louis Cardinals NLCS baseball playoff game on October 17, 2006, where she sang an a cappella rendition of "God Bless America."
Her debut album, entitled We Are One, was released by the Razor and Tie label on March 6, 2007.
Kelly sang the National Anthem before the San Diego Padres baseball game against the New York Mets at Petco Park in San Diego, California on Tuesday July 17, 2007.
Recently, remixes for Kelly's song "We Are One" were done by Dave Aude, Radioactive Sandwich, Matt Piso, and Electronathon.
Her cover of the Aerosmith classic Dream On was being played on adult contemporary format radio stations such as Hartford's WRCH, Manchester's WZID, and Seattle's KWJZ.

On my windowpane
I thought they'd never stop
Never see the sun again
And I've been sleeping in
For way too long
Mm, wake up, enough's enough
I'm gonna throw out my raincoat
Mm, I hope it's all right
Gonna go find me a rainbow
And hang it up in the sky
Blues pass me by
You left me a wreck
Just like a rusty trombone
But some things, they just sting
Enough to move you along, hey
I'm gonna throw out my raincoat
Mmm, I hope it's all right
Gonna go find me a rainbow
And hang it up in the sky
Blues pass me by
Gonna go find me a rainbow
And hang it up in the sky
Blues, oh
I'm not gonna wait around
I'm throwin' this old thing out
Mm, oh
I'm gonna throw out my raincoat
Mm, I hope it's all right
Gonna go find me a rainbow
And hang it up in the sky
Blues, blues, blues pass me by
Mm, I don't need those blues hanging around
The song "Raincoat" by Kelly Sweet is a reflection of the singer's decision to move on from a past relationship that left her feeling sad and hurt. The opening lines, "Raindrops bang like rocks on my windowpane, I thought they'd never stop, never see the sun again," set the tone for the rest of the song. The raindrops serve as a metaphor for the tears she shed in the aftermath of the break-up, and the gloomy weather represents her depressed state of mind. However, she decides that it's time to move on and let go of the past. "Wake up, enough's enough, yeah, those days are gone," she sings, showing her determination to leave the pain behind and start anew.
The chorus, "I'm gonna throw out my raincoat, mm, I hope it's all right, gonna go find me a rainbow and hang it up in the sky, blues pass me by," further emphasizes her decision to let go of the past and move forward. The raincoat symbolizes her attachment to the previous relationship and the sadness that it brought, but she's ready to throw it away and look for brighter things. The rainbow represents hope and positivity, and she's ready to hang it up in the sky and leave the sadness behind. The line "blues pass me by" is a clear indication that she doesn't want to be weighed down by the sadness anymore, and she's made a conscious decision to be happy and move on.
In the second verse, she addresses the pain that the other person caused her. "You left me a wreck just like a rusty trombone, but some things, they just sting enough to move you along," she sings. This line shows that, while the pain was intense, it has served a purpose in helping her move forward. She's ready to let go of the sadness and find happiness. The song ends with her declaring that she's not going to wait around anymore, and that she's throwing the raincoat out for good.
