Boothe seemed, at the time, to have the makings of an international, long-lasting, hit maker, certainly when compared to most of the other latter-day reggae acts. His smoother style gave him a wider appeal, rather like UB40 and Aswad. Boothe's choice of songs also showed the breadth of his musical taste. But for all that, he only managed one more hit in the UK Chart, "Crying over You", which made Number 11.
In more recent times, Boothe has also recorded for Bunny Lee, Phil Pratt, King Jammy, Pete Weston, Jack Ruby, Hugh "Red Man" James, Castro Brown, and Tappa Zukie. Plus in 1995, he teamed up with Shaggy, for a new styled version of his old track, "The Train Is Coming", which appeared on the soundtrack of the film, Money Train.
A double-disc overview of Boothe's Trojan years, Crying over You, was released by the label in 2001.

Why Baby Why
Ken Boothe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No es fácil
Volverte a ver
No me curas
Solo me enfermas
No hay medicina
Que tenga
Como hacerle frente
Si hay algo que se
Es que no es amor
No es amor
Vuelve
Me pediste
Volver a que
Tu fantasma me persigue
Y a mi alma la comprime
Como hacerle frente
A tanto dolor
Si hay algo que se
Es que no es amor
No es amor
The lyrics to Ken Boothe's song Why Baby Why carry a clear theme of torment and longing. The singer is addressing someone who they have tried to separate from, but the feelings they have for this person continue to inflict emotional anguish on them. The lyrics seem to convey two distinct messages. On one hand, the singer is pleading with their beloved to come back to them, evidenced by the line "Vuelve, me pediste volver a que," which translates from Spanish to "Come back, you asked me to come back." On the other hand, there is a feeling of resignation and understanding that this person is maybe not the best for them, as the lyrics repeatedly emphasize that the relationship is not love. The presence of the ghostly tone in lines like "Tu fantasma me persigue" (Your ghost haunts me) and "Y a mi alma la comprime" (And squeezes my soul) suggest that the person they are singing to still haunts them emotionally, though they may not be present.
In contrast, the lyrics communicate a sense of the singer's powerlessness in the face of their emotions, as they describe feeling "enfermas" (sick) around their beloved. They liken the situation to an illness that no medicine can cure. The chorus repeats the message that "no es amor" ("it's not love"), communicating the various contradictions in their relationship. They may feel love, but the relationship is toxic, or the other person may have promised love but does not offer it in practice. The lyrics suggest a deeply conflicted internal struggle, where the singer oscillates between their love for this person and their understanding that the relationship isn't healthy for them.
