One of the victims came to a professional who studied the building collapse and asked would her loved one have felt any pain when the building collapsed. The response was simply this..

No, think of a blender full of energy, glass, huge steel beams weighing tons all spinning around at once with you in it. You would be mixed up in that and you’d be dead within a second. Much like the victims on the planes who went through the buildings. Things would have just gone black.

I don’t think anyone road the Tower all the way didn’t. This isn’t a Warner Brother’s cartoon. The lucky ones are the people who managed to hide in the fire stairwell as the buildings came down. Anyone who survived that collapse would have been based on nothing but pure luck.

I only know of one person who supposedly surfed the floors of the Marriot Hotel and that was only because it was partially crushed by building 2. In fact it was cut in half. Had he been in the wrong place? He would have been dead instantly.

@akaFxde but, no explantation why the BBC reported 7 collapsing 20 minutes before it happened,the building was in the background, and the feed is immediately cutoff when the error is noticed.

Ignore all the explosions prior heard by many witnesses.

And, all the Congressional testimony behind closed doors and our leaders not under oath.

And, not a single military officer was demoted for failure. All promoted. The DC airspace was violated and our planes couldn't find a commercial aircraft.

The most heavily defended airspace and nothing but failure.

There are enough professionals that disagreed with NIST. It's like the covid vax and silencing critics.

It hurts me to hear this but it also is sad how some people are saying bad stuff about the 911 operator. Considering how many floors the WTC had and how many people they had to rescue before getting to him, it was impossible. Did y'all forget how many firefighters and policemen died trying to save those people???? A 911 operator's
job is to keep the victim calm and call the right authorities for the job. Put yourself in her shoes.... What would you have done or could have done different from....... Nothing

The end of Kevin's call was the thing that made this real for me. I knew no one in WTC, or on the planes, I'm not from New York...but I kept forcing myself to watch all the footage because I felt like I was supposed to feel the loss and the horror. This was the thing that finally did it.

@The Wrong MF Yes there was, they were above where the plane hit. Being the first building they had no reason to want to leave the building until it was too late. My company was in the South tower so we’re hit last. I don’t think everyone really knew what was happening but some did and were able to get. A friend of mine who was there said he felt the building shake & didn’t hesitate to leave and thankfully he survived.

The operator actually did a great job. She stayed focused, calm, and did the best she could to help. What could she really do? In my mind, she's heroic for trying to help them. I just wish she had told him what happened before he died. Then again, it would have caused a lot panic. So unimaginable.

He was actually one of the so called lucky ones. The ones lower down closer to the crash site would have already had to make the horrendous choice of do I burn or do I jump. At least the collapse happened before he HAD to make that choice many never had the hope they would be saved They did Probably to the very end Although when the other men in the room wanted to make sure they gave their names, I’m thinking that might have been when they believed they should probably make sure there was a record of their whereabouts no matter what was to happen.

I can’t imagine looking out a window thousands of feet from the ground with your back burning. I’d rather be crushed in a second then to even have to THINK of what choice I’m making.. let alone make it.

So sad. For a short time after the plane hit, there was a piece of drywall a man broke through making it down past the crash floors on one of the sets of stairs that was still free. It was the only way down from the floors above and no one knew they had that chance.
That was an interesting documentary a story we hadn’t heard until then.

According to the two people that were ejected from Tower 2, I think, and survived, there was a massive vibration and sound like a freight train immediately prior to the disintegration of their immediate area. That would suggest it was the sudden, violent vibration that this man reacted to. Mercifully, he probably never felt a thing and died almost instantly during the actual collapse of the floor.

4:35 in a documentary years ago, mr. cosgroves wife withheld parts of his call, including the last second where the towers are collapsing and he cuts off. His last words calling to God... I’m thankful she released this. It’s one of the most gut wrenching moments I’ve ever heard. He knew they were dying, and in that moment you can hear the terror in his voice. We can all only hope that he died instantly, and didn’t ride the tower down to the fiery inferno below him. Rest In Peace Kevin Cosgrove. You will not ever be forgotten.

I don't know that he had every right to say some of what he said, but we can all certainly understand it and forgive it. He was facing death and in a most horrible way. I get what he was begging for - anyone would (but from the other side - think of the videos we have subsequently seen - fire fighters from everywhere (and cops and emts and others) trying to get to people (a lot of them dying themselves), carrying tons of equipment up the stairs - not too many people realize how much that equipment weights, how much clothing, how heavy the air was for them trying to get up the stairs with crazy people everywhere probably grabbing them, people collapsing, people obstructing their path. Not to mention all of the things obstructing all of them even getting to the building!

I work in police dispatch and calls like this are all our worst nightmares. Thankfully few if any of us will ever have to work through a traumatic event like this and I think the operators there did as good a job as they could. It was a hopeless situation but they tried to gee the guy up and give him some prospect of escape to the end. The way he cuts off at the finish there is utterly heart breaking. I hope the dispatchers involved in all the calls that day have got help because they are victims too. They have to live with the sound of so many hundreds of people's last words ingrained in their memory.

Ive had the privilege of having excellent dispatchers, some who knew what I needed before I even asked. I like to believe some of that was because they were feeling me from where they were and knew I was counting on their support. I was seldom let down.
After handling a difficult call, or just to say hello, my partner and I would go to the 911 Center and bring them coffee and sandwiches in thanks.

I'd like to know more about Kevin Cosgrove. This is the call which always comes to mind when i think about 9/11. He had such a strong New York accent and just comes across as a very strong character, like a leader. The fact that he was still fighting for his life and that of 3 other men he was with right up until his last breath showed us how desperate he was to get out of that building so he could see his loved ones.

Hard disagree about "very strong character...leader".
This guy was no leader. He was someone who had little to no experience in a character-testing and/or life-threatening situation - as were the vast majority present in that building.
His panic is easily understandable, but there several key aspects of this conversation that strongly suggest that, while he may have held position of appointed leadership, he was never emotionally qualified.

@Georgia Lee sorry can you clarify what you mean by "this" being so preventable? the more I read about 9/11, the more distressing it gets. Like the 1993 bombing it took hours for people to evacuate. there were dozens of people who went up only to find the door to the roof was locked. Roko Camaj (the window washer) had a key but the door could only open when a buzzer was pressed at a security station on the 22nd floor - which had been abandoned. The South Tower stood for less than an hour. Even an hour in the highest any firefighter reached was the 78th floor. so. The WTC (most supertall buildings in general) just weren't designed to be evacuated quickly like this.

A friend of mine was dispatching in the Manhattan fd office. It's unbelievable the stories of everyone that day. My heart breaks listening to this. He said they really couldn't grasp what was happening as they were secluded to the desk and the radios. He said he knew how extreme things were when a firefighter from the rescue company called him by his first name over the radio, pleading for help. I know he relives that day every day. Can you imagine what all these operators went through that day. In the first 10 minutes after the first plane hit the towers, they got 10,000 calls. Unbelievable. I heard that many of the operators to this day suffer from PTSD, they needed therapy. Listening to this video I realize that they are the unsung heroes of that day. It would give me such peace to know that my loved one had someone to talk to in their final moments who was kind and nurturing.

@Romer Jusu What else could she say without feeding into his panic? I assume "I understand" is something 911 operators are told to say when they are dealing with frantic callers. It's not so much an "I understand what you're going through" as much as "I understand you're very upset." If we were in her shoes, what else could we say, y'know? The firefighters were on their way, but there was nothing else they could do, realistically. Such a tragedy.

This recording hits me like a ton of bricks every time I hear it. It's so hard to believe that it'll be 20 years since this awful day in a few months. I still watch videos of that day to honor and remember all of the victims and think of their family and friends and hope they're doing well in life. We visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum while in NYC 2 years ago and it was absolutely heartbreaking, but also a beautiful tribute.

Over a decade ago I had visited this video on 911 to pay respects to this man and all who perished that horrific day. I left a brief comment and never revisited as listening once was enough. A decade later, I received a notification in YouTube that someone had responded to that comment I left. I clicked on it and it led me back to this video. I didn't listen to the video - but instead I typed in the Google Search bar "How did Kevin Cosgrove Die?" I can't tell you what prompted me to do that - but I can't help but wonder if it may have been Kevin himself somehow - and this is why: When I entered those words "How did Kevin Cosgrove die" in the Google search engine I noticed that Google itself had Mr. Cosgrove's death listed as SUICIDE. It was plastered at the top of the search page in big, black, bold letters. Anyone in the world would see this if they did a Google search regarding his death. It wasn't a search result - it was displayed in the blank space at the top, center of the page - above the search results. I could not believe what I was seeing. I thought how in the hell could someone get something like this so wrong? It seemed almost deliberate to me. I considered that maybe it was a different Kevin Cosgrove? Turned out it wasn't. So from that moment I went on a mission to get this egregious 'error' corrected. Right here from my recliner (I am disabled) I went on a journey to see to it that this wrong was made right. It took a few months of contacting all kinds of different people - beginning with Google customer service (who informed me that particular aspect of Google is not available to the general public. So, I then filed a claim against Google with the FCC in an attempt to just get their attention on this. A couple of weeks later I turned on talk radio and heard the guest talking about the WTC events - and it suddenly occurred to me that it was September 11, 2019!! So I called the radio station, explained my quest to the operator and was immediately put on live talk radio in Seattle, WA - in hopes someone in the vast listening audience would know someone who could correct this error. But time went on and nothing came of this. So then I contacted the WTC museum in NYC and was put in touch with the VP of External Affairs who apparently had contacts at Google. But nothing came of that either. But I would not be discouraged. I knew this error needed to be remedied somehow. I am not computer savvy and was not aware of something called the "Google Feedback Forum" - but I stumbled upon it and sent one message and patiently waited for some kind of response. This forum only allows you to make one query - any more than that gets flagged as spam and your question is deleted. So I had to wait patiently for someone within that forum to see my message and respond to it. My original message to them was this: * * * "Mr. Kevin Cosgrove was a victim of the attack on World Trade Center, September 11, 2001. He was trapped in Tower 2 and was pleading for help with a 911 operator when the tower collapsed killing him- the horrific audio can be heard on youtube. When "How did Kevin Cosgrove die" is entered into the Google Search engine the result claims his death a SUICIDE. This is an egregious error that needs immediate correction." * * * Finally on Nov., 1, 2019 I was contacted by the Google Search Community Manager with great news - they removed the "suicide" claim and replaced it with "blunt force trauma" - which was the literal cause of death - although he was actually murdered - but that is a legal term so I was at least satisfied they removed the suicide claim. Since that time Google has reconfigured their format several times and only results of the search are shown. My sincere hope is that loved ones of Mr. Cosgrove never saw that egregious "error". And with help "from above" I know they never will. <3

This is absolutely heartbreaking. His final moment where his terror-stricken voice screamed “oh god” flooded me with so many emotions. So much bravery, I cannot nor I will never be able to imagine the pain he went through at his fatal end. May he be remembered, along with all of the victims of this terrible tragedy. I hope you are all resting peacefully above, wherever that may be.

Where he was at in the tower the floors below him were falling. If I were to guess he was free falling down along with the building while the floors above him were falling. Very sad way to die.

I remember the first time I heard this call. My friend had told me about the call a few years back but I had never heard of it prior. It's so chilling to the bone and I could never even imagine being in that situation. Stuff like this makes me always remember to tell those around me that I love them, you never know when your last time might be to do so.

I revisit this once a year as 9/11 approaches. This is a constant reminder to many that it wasn’t just two iconic structures that fell that day, but innocent fathers, mothers, sons and daughters that unexpectedly became victims to our country’s greatest attack on American soil. As more time passes, it becomes more important than ever to keep their memories alive and to share the events of this day to younger generations.

Kevin Cosgrove's name and phonecall has stuck with me all this time due to its horrifying and incredibly sad nature. I listen to this recording every year, I cannot imagine the fear this man felt in his final moments, not knowing if he would live or die. Its scary how life can just end in an instant and makes you appreciate life more and to make the most of the time you have. This recording is a piece of history and a reminder of such a tragic and horrific day. I only pray that he died instantly and didn't feel any pain or suffering. I pray that nothing like this ever happens again in the future. I hope this man is in a much better place and he shall never been forgotten and he seemed like he was a very good man considering he was trying to get help to himself and his colleagues. R.i.p 🙏❤️🙏

Every year on 9/11 I listen to this call. It’s one thing to see the pictures and read about it, but to hear the hear voice filled with fear and doom is beyond words. RIP Kevin Cosgrove.

For me, this is the single most heartbreaking thing I've heard from that day. This is just haunting, I can't imagine how the 911 operator feels! The man knew he was going to die but had no idea it would be from the collapse. hearing him struggle to breathe is horrific and I find my own breathing labored listening to it. Rest in peace to all the victims.

This. This is the 911 call that keeps me up at night. Something about the "Oh god" and cut off silence makes it too real for me. I was 8 when this event happened so it never really had an impact until I researched it on my own. My heart goes out to anyone who lost someone in this event 💔

He was buried on September 22, 2001, at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Huntington, New York .Wendy Cosgrove testified about her husband's last moments when he was trapped on the South Tower's 105th floor, and jurors heard an audio tape of Cosgrove's 9-1-1 phone call in which he told a dispatcher: "We're not ready to die."[4][11] Wendy Cosgrove also testified that their oldest son, who was 12 on the day of the attacks, suffered a decline in his academic performance and had developed anger and self-destructive habits as well as trouble with the law, while their middle child, who was 9 at the time of the attacks, exhibited self-mutilation for which she has undergone therapy.

I heard this a couple years ago, and the part at the end where he screams when the building starts falling gives me chills. I just saw a show on Amazon about the calls that came from the WTC on that day, and they played parts of this recording, but they edited out his scream in the sound of the tower falling.

His wife was interviewed and said there is over 10 more minutes of him talking to various 9/11 operators and other people that was not released to the public. And it brings her peace that she can hear him and know that the other recordings are only between her and him and nobody else has listened. So sad.
