Say Goodbye
Kenna Ft. Lupe Fiasco Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The mission is to make you forget
And now is all the time that we get
How could you say you're not into it
Trust me
God is my witness

Just say goodbye 2 love
I feel like I'm nowhere
Say goodbye 2 love
I feel like I'm nowhere
Just say goodbye 2 love

Its got my mind in a twist
I can't think or see straight
I guess I'm leavin' it up to fate
Its all in what you make of it

Just say goodbye 2 love
I feel like I'm nowhere
Say goodbye 2 love
I feel like I'm nowhere
Just say goodbye 2 love

Don't you know it goes
On and on
Gone we're gone
On and on
We're gone we're gone
On and on
Gone gone

Gone gone
On

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Kenna Ft. Lupe Fiasco's song "Say Goodbye to Love" are a reflection on a relationship that is falling apart. The singer is urging their partner to let go of the love that they once shared and move on. The opening lines, "The mission is to make you forget, and now is all the time that we get" implies that the relationship has been damaged beyond repair, and the singer is suggesting that it is time to move on. The line "How could you say you're not into it, trust me, God is my witness" is an impassioned plea to their partner, but also serves as a nod to their faith which informs the decision to let go.

The phrase "say goodbye 2 love" is repeated throughout the song, and it is a plea to both the singer and their partner to let go of the past and move forward. The singer is feeling lost and unsure of their place in the world, as evidenced by the line "I feel like I'm nowhere," with the repetition of the phrase "On and on, gone we're gone," serving as a reminder of how quickly it can all come crashing down. The final line, "Gone gone, on" suggests that despite the pain of the relationship's end, life moves on, and so must the singer and their partner.

In high school in the late 2000s i remember stumbling onto this on MTV France all mix pop alt playlist, falling in love with Kenna and burying his music soon after. Very underrated. He was part of the Pharrell NERD Missy Elliott Kanye Kid Cudi crew of artists who was so representative of a black multi influence indie influence artist at the time when people like me couldn’t get enough of seeing people with similar interests who looked like me because it was so rare then in mainstream media except for the former i mentioned above. Growing up in Gabon. france and Switzerland i feel like artists such as Kenna had a bigger visibility compared to their native USA and kids like me worldwide were hungry for more of that❤

I was today years old when I learned there is a remix to this song. Props to Kenna for a timeless jam that still takes me right back to being an 18 year old with his whole life ahead of him.

@Stalaheid

I love Lupe's love songs. He's one of the few rappers who actually raps about it.

@demonicshadow

Kenna and Lupe must be good friends, seeing as after Lupe worked with Kenna on this remix, they went on to the "Summit on the Summit expedition". From what I hear, this expedition was the main inspiration for the album Kenna is working on. Either way, Kenna deserves more credit than he's given. These are both good artists, but I only see that one has really been recognized.
