Kenny Burrell is one of those guys I would recommend to people to make jazz guitar seem more "approachable". Not that he's a chump by any means but he's extremely melodic and just does things that serve the groove and the song. It's easy to see why he's so revered by blues players as much as jazz players. Not many players can say that. Larry Carlton is another I would put in that category.

@surfghost9121

I get it. He never overplayed, but he could do it all. Super soulful. Played with Coltrane and everyone else. Great writer too.

@barbequebobmaglinte

This man has been very influential to a lot of guitar players from Otis Rush to SRV. I've got this tune as a ringtone for my cellphone for text messages.

@littlebeanchild

Stevies rendition of this tune is pretty spectacular too. Both are absolutely phenomenal

@landontesar3070

might check Wes Montgomery 'Bumpin on Sunset' for a similar groove. Was Kenny Burrell the originator?

@oza8578

Stevie's version is great. But, nothing beats the original.

@sonnyboyterry

Kenny wrote it though.

@al201103

With you 100% on Kenny...just an absolute master. Midnight Blue is still my favourite Jazz album.

@garys8990

Great song and arrangement! Love playing it on my Hammond B-3 organ! Thanks for posting.

@sorebutton

I have this on vinyl, too. Burrell's best LP, ever! I love the "call and response" licks between Turrentine and Burrell near the end of the chart. Just a tight chart! It's sad there are no great guitars like him, Joe Pass, Barney Kessell, Charlie Byrd, Johnny Smith and others to keep the groove anymore. In the words of Duke Ellington"We Miss You Madly".
