I'll Be Seeing You
Kenny Dorham Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces all day through
In that small cafe, the park across the way
The children's carousel,
The chestnut trees, the wishing well

I'll be seeing you in every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way

I'll find you in the morning' sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new

I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Kenny Dorham's song "I'll Be Seeing You" are infused with a deep sense of longing and nostalgia for a lost love. The singer is looking back on memories of their time together, and reflecting on how they will continue to be reminded of their former partner in all the places they used to go and the things they used to do. The first verse paints a vivid picture of these familiar places, such as the cafe and the park, and implies that the singer will continue to frequent these spots even though their loved one is no longer with them.

The second verse, with its reference to "every lovely summer's day" and "everything that's light and gay," suggests that the memories of the lost love are not exclusively painful ones, but also include happy moments shared together. The singer acknowledges that they will always carry these memories with them, and that even everyday sights like the morning sun and the moon will bring thoughts of their former partner to mind.

Overall, the lyrics evoke a bittersweet sense of loss and remembrance, and convey the complex emotions that come with trying to move on from a relationship while still treasuring the memories of what was.

Sadly, the title was not to be (for Ernie Henry).  A great farewell...

According to Jazz Discography Project or Wikipedia, the bassist on this tune seems to be Eddie Mathias, not Wilbur Ware. Otaku4 (^_^)b

danielfortinbass

I thought it was Wilbur Ware playing bass on this record...
