Come On Over
Kenny Wayne Shepherd Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Two lane is slick, black, heavy as the storm streaks down
Come on over baby
Voice on the radio, thunder clap drownin' out
Come on over baby
What has you feeling so trapped alone with your doubts

She says
You ain't broken, you're just bent like me
She says
I'll show you something that will set you free, set you free
She says
Howl at the wind, cry on the shoulder of the road
Or you can come on over, come on over baby

If you were a bridge yeah you'd be going up in flames
Come on over baby
It's like you're trying to outrun yesterday
Come on over baby
Tell me what's holding you back, what rattles your chains

She says
You ain't broken, you're just bent like me
She says
I'll show you something that will set you free, set you free
She says
Howl at the wind, cry on the shoulder of the road
Or you can come on over, come on over baby

She says
You ain't broken, you're just bent like me
She says
I'll show you something that will set you free, set you free
She says

Howl at the wind, cry on the shoulder of the road
Or you can come on over, come on over baby

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Kenny Wayne Shepherd's "Come On Over" seem to be directed towards someone who is feeling trapped and alone with their doubts. They are trying to outrun their troubles but are ultimately unsuccessful. The imagery painted by the lyrics of slick black roads and thunderclaps drowning out the radio adds to the urgency of the situation.

The chorus provides a glimmer of hope to the person feeling lost, as the singer compares their situation to their own experiences of being "bent" but not broken. They offer to show the person something that will set them free, whether it be crying on the shoulder of the road or coming on over to where they are.

Overall, the lyrics seem to be a message of encouragement to someone who has hit a rough patch and needs a friend to help lift them up. It's a reminder that despite feeling alone and trapped, there is someone out there who has been through the same things and is willing to help guide them through it.

Saw the Kenny Wayne Shepherd band last night (6-1-13) at the Paramount in Huntington, Long Island, NY. What an exciting, amazing guitar player he is!!!!! Great band! Noah Hunts voice is a perfect match to Kenny's blues rock. His performance of Voodoo Child was insane. Love these guys
