My children... Listen to me. I have lived regretting the past, and I have faced those regrets. If only I could do things over again... Not a day of my life has gone without my thought turning to my kingdom of old. I have lived bound to Hyrule. In that sense, I was the same as Ganondorf.
But you... I want you to live for the future. There may be nothing left for you... but despite that, you must look forward and walk a path of hope, trusting that it will sustain you when darkness comes.
Farewell... this is the only world your ancestors were able to leave you.
Please... forgive us.

W-wait! You could... you could come with us! Yes, of course! We have a ship! We can find it! We WILL find it! The land that will be the next Hyrule!
So...

Ah, but child... that land will not be Hyrule.
It will be YOUR land!

Tell me the secrets of the Life's Tree
Give me the power of the Great Three
Fight me, the ocean lends me your key
Leave me as I fade beneath the sea

All memories from days of yore (A legend will end)
Soon won't be breathing anymore (An old and cursed land)
Locked in by endless water
Please, end this useless slaughter
Clear all my mistakes from before

Tales will be forgotten, lost into the sea
Thoughts, so dark and rotten, will sink down with me

I'm just a fool wearing a crown
Feel all the water crashing down
Help me to make my last amends
With the Triforce in my hands
One last wish before I drown

While it may not seem like it, ganondorf and the king, have a deeper story than anything In the Zelda franchise

“In my country the winds always brought the same thing, death…” - ganondorf

“In that sense, I was the same as ganondorf…” - king hyrule

It's crazy the tonal shift between the visuals and the actual story, especially near the end. While places like Windfall and characters like Tingle are whimsical and fun, and Dragon Roost Island or Forest Haven are mystical and grand, the actual story of Hyrule being drowned under the ocean is kind of terrifying, and the way the King and Ganondorf talk about the old kingdom brings a strange feeling, especially with Ganondorf's "Your Gods destroyed you!" and his insanity truly showing when he knew his plans have failed... man i love this game

To think of ... Ganondorf indirectly desired to commit Genocide ... Raising Hyrule back to its surface would have meant raising the level of Land. All the small island would have been raised as well, thus so many houses would have collapsed ...

This encapsulates most Zelda games. It is all bright and happy on the outside, but if you look closely at the story of Hyrule, or even the story of Link, it is sad.

The scene is so heartbreaking. I always cry when Link tries to grab the hand of the king. 😢😭
