1. Istanbul-based instrumental progressive rock band KES is the new kid on the block in the instrumental rock musicโs world.
KES was formed in 2012 by Mehmet Demirdelen (Drums), Cenk Turanlฤฑ (Bass) and Emre Kula (Guitar), who met as students at Istanbulโs Yildiz Universityโs School of Music. Listening to KES, the flow, funk and friendship between these talented musicians immediately becomes clear. Having recorded the album live certainly aided its high level of energy.
The progressive rock audience will appreciate the musical craftsmanship of the album โ drums, bass, guitar and their intricate arrangements catch the listener right away. From the first beats to the last notes, this is an album made by musicians with a capital M.
In an album review by Geoff Barton in Classic Rock Magazine, KES is being described as โinspired by the dark, jagged power of Meshuggah and Toolโ and โstrongly recommendedโ, stating that โthese young Turks will surely make waves outside their home country soon.โ
With Kamlama, KES does an impressive job in showing where instrumental progressive rock music could be going in the years to come. Not surprisingly, itโs been said that KES is one of the best things that happened in Turkish rock lately. Itโs hard to disagree.
Kamlama was recorded live in January 2014 at Maslak 1024 Studios by Murat Gรผlbay and Cem รmeroฤlu. Selim Demirdelen shot the first music video for the track Hak.
KES has played countless concerts and festivals in Turkey and will be touring Germany and Switzerland with 10 concerts between December 2016 โ January 2017. In addition to the groupโs recent tour, KES will be taking stage in New York in early 2017 and is invited to perform at the Austin Instrumental Music Festival on February 25th, 2017.
2. Melbourne, Australia - Karl Scullin - former member of Bird Blobs, Mum Smokes. Scullin's guitar work often pulls obtuse shapes and places them in a distinctly playful way amidst the signature balance of his effortless knack for melodic song structures and exhilaratingly abrasive turns.
3. Kes or Kes the Band is a Trinidadian soca band formed in 2005 by brothers, Kees (lead vocals), Hans (drums) and Jon Dieffenthaller (guitar) and close friend Riad Boochoon (bass guitar). All of them are alumni of Presentation College, San Fernando in Trinidad & Tobago, as is well-known soca artiste Machel Montano. Noted for high energy live performances and the soulful voice of lead singer, Kees, the band has captured the hearts of many. It has become one of the most popular and sought after bands in Trinidad and Tobago and also throughout the Caribbean, US and Canada.

Savannah Jโฒouvert morning
The lyrics to Kes's song "Savannah Grass" tell the story of a Caribbean Carnival celebration, specifically the early morning J'ouvert festivities that take place in the savannah or open grassy areas. He sings about how everyone is ready to join in the revelry and shake off their worries, as they come together to dance, jump, and free up in the place of bacchanal. The excitement is palpable as the town takes on a carnival atmosphere, with people coming from near and far to join in the fun.
The chorus urges everyone to find their way to the stage, whether they are coming down from the mountains or just from down the street. Kes sings about how the rhythm is beating in town, and you can see the dust raising as everyone jumps and dances in unison. He celebrates the love and feeling of community that permeates the scene, as everyone comes together to make the most of the two days of celebration.
Overall, this song is a celebration of Caribbean culture and the spirit of carnival, encouraging everyone to let loose and let the music move them. It embodies the feeling of unity and joy that comes from celebrating with friends and strangers alike.
