Fowler put together a country band in 1998 and began playing Tuesday nights at Babe's on Sixth Street in Austin. Within two years, he'd begun recording albums and struck big with his self-released Beer, Bait and Ammo (2000). The album sold around 30,000 copies in the Texas area and garnered an impressive amount of airplay, particularly for the album's title track. The song became somewhat of a Texas anthem; Mark Chesnutt made the song part of his live show, and Sammy Kershaw recorded it. Fowler returned in 2002 with his third album, High on the Hog, and boasted some impressive guests, including Willie Nelson and David Lee Garza.

lady's chewin' on my ear There's
moanin' and groanin' I don't wanna hear I
know her mouth is makin' words All
I heard was "blah blah, blah", Same
ole story just, another day A
chore I didn't do a, bill I didn't pay We've
I've gotta say is What's,
your point Tell
me somethin' I didn't know I'm
a hard headed son of a gun That's
just the way I roll Old
dogs they, never change Don't
waste your breath on me Oh
I've, heard it all before Yeah
what's, your point Alarm's
clock a-ringin' I'm, really late Another
story I'll have to fabricate About
how traffic's bad The,
kids hid the keys Boss
man says this is my last chance Tomorrow
it'll, be the same song and dance I'
don't think that you'll go to hell For
that punctuality What's
your point Tell
me somethin' I didn't know I'm
a hard headed son of a gun That's
just the way I roll Old
dogs they, never change Don't
waste your breath on me Oh
I've, heard it all before Yeah
what's, your point People
comin' at me tellin' me I'm wrong Sayin'
that I should change my ways They
can keep talkin' someday, they'll, learn All
they're gonna get is blue in the face What's
your point Tell
me somethin' I didn't know I'm
a hard headed son of a gun That's
just the way I roll Old
dogs they, never change Don't
waste your breath on me Oh
I've, heard it all before So
what's, your point Tell
me somethin' I didn't know I'm
a hard headed son of a gun Yeah
that's, just the way I roll Old
dogs they, never change Don't
waste your breath on me Oh
I've, heard it all before Yeah
what's, your point Tell
me what's, your point
The lyrics of Kevin Fowler's song "What's Your Point" depict the singer as a hard-headed individual, who goes through the familiar routine of everyday life, confronted with the same old complaints, excuses or requests from his wife, boss or others. The song suggests that the singer is tired of hearing the same old story, with no real point or solution to it, and that he's unapologetically set in his ways, unwilling to change or be persuaded by others. Instead, he challenges those who confront him to make a meaningful statement that can add value to his life or change his perspective on things. The repeated phrase "What's your point" conveys a sense of frustration, impatience, and skepticism on the part of the singer, as if he's fed up with the words that don't lead to action or change.
The tone of the song is mostly light-hearted, with a catchy tune, playful lyrics, and riffs of electric guitar, which complement the country twang of Fowler's voice. The song's message isn't meant to be taken too seriously, but rather as a humorous commentary on human behavior, communication, and daily life. The song invites the listener to relate to the singer's perspective, to smile at his stubbornness, and maybe recognize their own limitations or need for clarity in communication.
