Black and White
Kevin Paige Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How many times will man be burned
Before he realizes the lessons he must learn
How many dreams will blow out in time
Before they have their chance to shine

And I say whoa, whoa, come sing with me
And I say whoa, whoa, I...
I try to dream in color
But the world sees in Black and White
I try to see what's peaceful
But the world seems to want to fight

How many children is there no future for
They're trapped behind the walls of war
How many songs must be written to say
That 'peace and love' is the only way

And I say whoa, whoa, come sing with me
And I say whoa, whoa, I...

I try to dream in color
But the world sees in Black and White
I try to see what's peaceful
But the world seems to want to fight

We all must stand and fight
For what we know is right
And we must try, to strong
When it's wrong, not let it go on

And I say whoa, whoa, come sing with me
And I say whoa, whoa, I...I...

I try to dream in color
But the world sees in Black and White
I try to see what's peaceful
But the world seems to want to fight
I try to dream in color
But the world sees in Black and White
Who was your teacher
Did they not show you wrong from right

I try to dream in color

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kevin Paige's song "Black and White" speaks about the struggle of individuals to live in a world that is often divided by conflict, war, and lack of regard for human life. The first part of the song asks a rhetorical question regarding how many times man needs to be burned and how many dreams need to be extinguished before people realize the harsh lessons they need to learn. The singer seems to suggest that people are not learning from the mistakes of the past and are continuously repeating them. The second part of the song focuses on the frustration of the singer in trying to find beauty and hope in a world that seems to only see things in black and white, and where peace is impossible to find. The singer acknowledges that the world they live in is a place full of challenges, and people must fight for what is right, even if it means standing alone.

Overall, the lyrics of "Black and White" are a powerful message about the struggle of living in a world that is fraught with difficulties. It speaks about the importance of standing up for what is right, even when the world seems to be against you. The song suggests that peace and love are the only way to bring about real change in this world.
