Despite the threat of violence and ridicule from intolerant peers, an 11-year-old Pearce rallied against an environment suspicious of success to realise a creative calling.
Possessing a self-taught arsenal of instrumentation and inspired by a generation of balladeers and song smiths, he sounds at once timeless and contemporary.
He caught the gigging bug at 21, after a maiden solo slot in Colchester, and has since gone venue to venue honing his craft.
From his sound springs something classic but cutting-edge; consoling but speculative. A modern musical polymath with a skewed approach to familiar folk tradition.Trite comparisons to luminary troubadours like Dylan and Drake are inevitable, but Pearce commands exceptional recognition.
Fellow Essex-boy Steve Lamacq picked up a demo and gave Pearce his first airplay on Radio 2, before an introduction to I monster's Dean Honer (Human League,Roisin Murphy(Moloko) Add N to X & I monster) led to the formation of collaborative side-project of Sheffield based band Skywatchers.
A solo effort (Pocket Handkerchief Lane) followed, produced by Honer and featuring a unique cocktail of acoustic sounds, vintage electro FX and soaring vocals.
Sincere, unaffected and frank, Pearce is proof that a pound of pluck is worth a tonne of luck.
Dynamite

I climbed up the hill over my home town
I saw steel skies
I saw steel skies
When will we learn
The walls of our lives
And we can't go on
I don't understand
My eyes saw like glitter bugs
Burned down the fence
Burned down the fence
When will we learn
The walls of our light
And we can't go on
Living like dynamite
The song "Dynamite" by Kevin Pearce talks about the destructive nature of human activities and how they are detrimental to the environment. The lyrics start with the singer walking in the woods and climbing up the hill over his home town. He observes the steel skies, which indicate that the pollution caused by human activities is affecting the environment. In the following lines, the singer questions when we will learn that the walls of our lives are closing in on us, and the destructive path we are on is unsustainable.
The chorus repeats the line, "When will we learn, the walls of our light, and we can't go on Living like dynamite." The walls of our light refer to the limitations that we have set for ourselves and our inability to see beyond them. Living like dynamite implies that our actions are explosive and will lead to destruction if we don't change our ways. The last verse talks about the singer's confusion as he sees "glitter bugs" and "burned down the fence," which could be a metaphor for the beauty and destruction happening simultaneously in our environment.
