At a young age, he began listening to the music played around him by an older crowd. As the years passed, he grew into a multi-genre listener. His influences vary from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gorillaz, A Tribe Called Quest, The Neptunes, and Snoop Dogg. He first began recording in his senior year of high school when hip hop artist and fellow classmate, Junior (Wade Powell Jr.), asked him to be featured on a mixtape with Chris Canon (Chris Carson). After being featured on 2 songs of the mixtape and having a bonus song, a freestyle over NERD's "Spazz", he began pursuing his music career.

There is a story about Jerome Kern. The day after the play opened for which he wrote 'All The Things You Are' he had lunch with a theater critic for the New York Times. The critic asked him if he thought the song would ever really become popular. Jerome answered "No, the melody is just too complicated for that. People just won't remember it." They finished their lunch and as they walked out of the restaurant a stranger walked by whistling the melody.
