In the back of my mind I know it's hard on us
But to tell you the truth there's no more love, no more love
It's not easy to say I'm giving up
And I've been losing count
When the seconds turn to minutes into hours
You've been working 9 to 5
Are we gonna be alright
If I come through tonight
Baby can I stay a while
It's hard to say goodbye when I'm leaving, yeah
Let me inside, I'm down to hide
Just know I'm coming home for a reason
Baby can I stay a while
It's hard to say goodbye when I'm leaving
Let me inside, dim down the lights
Just know I'm coming home for a reason
Baby can I stay a while
All the shit that you say, do you mean it?
And when you tell me you love me do you believe it?
I can see it in your eyes you've had enough of it
And I've been missing out
When the seconds turn to minutes into hours
Working 9 to 5 'cause it's hard to find the time for me, yeah
Are we gonna be alright
If I come through tonight, yeah
Baby can I stay a while
It's hard to say goodbye when I'm leaving
Let me inside, I'm down to hide
Just know I'm coming home for a reason
Baby can I stay a while
It's hard to say goodbye when I'm leaving
Let me inside, I'm down to hide
Just know I'm coming home for a reason
Baby can I stay a while
It's hard to say goodbye when I'm leaving
Let me inside, I'm down to hide
Just know I'm coming home for a reason
Baby can I stay a while
It's hard to say goodbye when I'm leaving
Let me inside, I'm down to hide
Just know I'm coming home for a reason
Baby can I stay a while
In Khalid's song Stay, the artist expresses his vulnerability in a romantic relationship. He admits that there is a lack of love and that he has been considering giving up. However, he still desires to spend time with his partner and asks if he can stay for a while. The lyrics reveal a complicated situation where the couple may be going through a rough patch and struggling to make time for each other. Khalid acknowledges that his partner has been working hard, but it has been difficult for them to find quality time together. Despite this, the artist remains hopeful that their bond will withstand the challenges.
The repetition of the phrase "Baby can I stay a while" demonstrates Khalid's desire to be close to his loved one. He tries to view the situation from their perspective and wonders if coming over will make things better. He also questions the sincerity of his partner's actions and words, asking whether they truly mean the things they say. This suggests that there may have been some doubt and distrust in the relationship, adding to the complexity of their current circumstances.
Overall, Khalid's Stay is a ballad about the intricacies of love and the struggles that come with it. It conveys the conflicting emotions that people experience when they are in a relationship that is going through a tough phase. The song ends on a hopeful note, with Khalid expressing his willingness to put in the effort to make things work.
